May SAT 2011: Math Section

No;
And the volume to surface area was simple. Volume is proportional to surface area. V^3=A^2 Take the cube root of each side; V=A^(2/3) (I think that was the question/answer; but regardless, that’s how you do it, right?)

PLEASE FILL UP THE LIST !!!

What was the question?

Wasn’t it 8.111?

Thanks for the great work man! I’ll help as much as I can :)

@tizil 41) is correct

An easy question, but still an addition to the list:

Lol the number of places where Kim could sit was 2. I lol’d at that question. Like seriously what a b!tch, can’t sit beside or across from Tim. I woulda slapped her if I were Tim.

13) 250

35) 23 days

what were those two questions about?

Could someone remind me the actual length - ideal length question?

The question used the letter A to refer to the actual length and the letter L to refer to the ideal length.

And they were enclosed in an absolute value bracket thingy like this: |A-L|

and their difference was less than 0.01.

And the ideal length was 8.1 so you had to figure out the actual length.

I wrote 8.105! not 9.105…it has to be between 8.09 and 8.11…the other choices are greater than 8.11 so it’s A.

and abt 250 i dunno! i just filled up the list…the list is from page 26…

Thanks Kiko :)

Sorry for the mis-quote.

Looks like I got 4 questions wrong now… kill me >_<

I’d also like it if anyone remembered the 13) 250 and 35) 23 days questions ): gracias muchoo

My daughter has a gap between crit reading score & math score of over 150 pts. CR was 780; Math was 620. Are there any prep materials that can raise her math scores in about 5 months?

23 weeks i think! i rmb vaguely that it’s abt working hrs or sth…how many weeks u will have to work to get that sum of money…its a big number…anyone rmb exactly?

@SouthGaMom
holy moly 780 on CR is beyond my dream score
anyways don’t worry
Math, at least what i think, is the easiest section of the 3 to improve
if you have 5 months of prep time 750+ will be no problem for her
she should practise the math sections and just familiarize herself with the type of questions and formula

@southgamom : wow. is that her first time? i got 560 in Cr and 670 in Maths in my first time. I think it depends on ur high school system. We dun speak English here so Cr is quite difficult for me and maths is ok apart frm stupid mistakes! Uhh…Have you read silverturtle’s prep ? it’s some good stuff! And Official guide 10 practice tests!

Just wondering, about what score would I get with a -2?

eq of a circle is (x-x center)squared + (y-y of center)squared=radius squared given that the point was on the y axis=>x=0 and you can calculate the radius so substitute x with zero and solve for y two values will be 14 and 0 but point was above the x axis so it cant be zero so it must be 14 i am sure there easier way but this was first thing i thought of and i was not running out of time so i just answered it

I think you guys got one wrong, but I am not sure so let me explain:

The one question with a right triangle said the angles were 2x, 3x, and 5x. Therefore, x would be 18, not 9. I don’t see how it could be 9, someone care to explain (I checked this a couple of times too)?

2x + 3x + 5x = 180
x (2 + 3 + 5) = 180
10x = 180
x = 180

2(18) + 3(18) + 5(18) = 180
36 + 54 + 90 = 180
180=180

Is this wrong? All of the angles in a triangle should add up to 180 right, or am I missing something completely obvious? I must have the problem wrong I guess.

With 9:

2(9) + 3(9) + 5(9) = 180
18 + 27 + 45 = 180
90 ≠ 180

a right angle is 90 degrees not 180

I don’t understand what you are saying, 2x is one angle of a triangle, 3x is another, and 5x (the 90 degree angle) is the third angle that makes the triangle right. I don’t know if that makes sense, but 5x is the 90 degree right angle.

EDIT: Here is a diagram of how I am picturing this:
