May SAT scores

I just received my scores from the May SAT and I’m not disappointed, but I don’t know exactly how to feel about them.

How does a 1500 (740 M, 760 RW) compare to a 34 ACT (35E, 33M, 34R, 34S), and which score would be better to send to colleges?

Thanks!

34 ACT is a bit more solid than a 1500, in my opinion.

There are no valid comparisons yet between the ACT and the new SAT so trying to figure out which may be better when both are high scores, is an exercise that leads to no valid conclusion. In that situation, you should send both.

If you google “new sat to act conversion”, a few websites will pop up with conversion charts. None of them have been made by College Board or ACT, but they could give you a rough estimate of the comparisons.

The CB has released concordance tables for the new SAT and a 1500 converts to a 33 ACT.

How valid a comparison that really is can be debated.

On this other thread, ivysource prepared a chart that equates a 34 ACT to a 1540 new SAT.

According to the CB May Concordance tables :

1490 - 1510 = 33
1520 - 1550 = 34

It appears ivysource is using the concordance tables between the old SAT, the ACT and the new SAT to convert from old SAT to new SAT. I doubt colleges will follow that model.

The concordance tables may not be perfect, but the percentile scores seem to agree with them. Your ACT composite is at 99.0642, and SAT composite is at 99.0273. You do seem to have a higher ACT, but at this point it’s really splitting hairs. I’d submit both and stop worrying about it.
