May someone please explain about the Health Insurance Program at USC?

Health Insurance // SCampus

"The health insurance plan works in conjunction with the university’s student health centers. For this reason, all students enrolled in the insurance plan are required to pay the student health fee and access their primary care at the student health center on their campus. The cost for coverage is $405 for the fall semester (August 17, 2009 to January 10, 2010) and $580 for the spring semester and summer session (January 11, 2010 to August 15, 2010)."

So I have to pay $405 (fall) and $580 (spring) ? Isn't it already included in my Financial aid packet? I received a total of $50534 from USC. My USC EFC is $5194 (I know it's not exactly what I have to pay). HOW MUCH do I actually have to pay TO USC, like the Meal Plan and the Health Insurance Program? Will USC send me a bill soon?

Health insurance is not covered by financial aid - it is considered an expense that your family would have whether you attended school or not - like mortgage payments on a family home etc. If your family has private health insurance (through an employer, for example), you can attempt to waive the USC insurance by submitting the waiver form with a copy of your insurance card and a printout of the health-care plan benefits. Some private insurance plans will meet USC’s requirements, and some will not - it is always worth it to try the waiver form.

Is the cost of meal plan also covered by financial aid? By the way, thank you very much alamemom! =]

Yes, the cost of the meal plan is included in your *cost of attendance *upon which your financial aid is calculated.

You’re welcome!

Does USC assume me to have the Cardinal meal plan, which costs $2450, or the Gold Plan, which costs $300 more? So if I have the Gold Plan do I have to pay those $300 b myself?
