I have heard much about the Jackson School of Geolosciences. I was wondering what people could tell me about it. Is it held as one of the better geology schools in the nation? Is it highly prestigious? Is it really hard to get into it? (With less than 200 undergrads in the school and over 135 faculty and staff members, it makes me wonder . . . ) Those sort of questions.

Additionally, I am considering transfering over to UT, with hopes of eventually majoring in environmental geology. I have noticed that the acceptance rates for transfer students seem to be under 50%. So of course I want to try and make my chances of getting in as good as they can be. Thus:
--is the fact that I'd be an out of state student going to impact my chance of getting in?
--should I apply as undeclared, as someone trying to get into the Jackson School of Geosciences, or as someone trying to get into the College of Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences?
--any other tips in general?

And also, does anyone have any guess at my chances of getting in? I have a 3.92 right now, got a 1960 on the SATs (1350 by old standards), was 11th percentile in my class, and got 5's on all 4 AP tests I took. (Oh, and I'd be transfering from UConn [University of Connecticut] with about 35 credits.)
