Hi, I’m currently an econ major and considering double majoring in statistics. But I can’t seem to find that much information on it (it doesn’t seem to very popular).

I was wondering if a degree in statistics is valuable (especially compared to a degree from haas)? I was going to double in business, but I kind of want to do something more quantative.

Also what is statistics really about? Like what kind of things to you do/study?

And finally, what can you do with a stats major? I’m thinking about going to law school after undergrad, and I was wondering if a stats major would do anything for me.

A statistics degree might be valuable with an econ major if you go into econometrics. It really depends on what you want to do.

If you’ve taken Stats 21/20 for business then you will have a general idea of what it’s about. A lot of stats is just using numbers to predict what will happen or to explain a phenomenon using numbers. In this way, econ and stats have some correlation. Econ just deals more specifically with money.

Many stats majors become actuaries. If you plan on becoming a lawyer, you probably don’t want to double major. Instead, find all the easy classes you are interested in and take those. A high GPA is much more valuable than a double major for law schools.
