Does anyone know off hand anything about the BA theatre programs offered at Fordham University or Eugene Lang School? I am very interested in attending one of the two and was wondering if anyone had any information-advice- and so on

My d's vocal coach in NYC (he's coached Bernadette Peters, Audra McDonald, etc.) said to absolutely stay away from Fordham. Just his opinion. (he taught at NYU previously, also) Sorry to anyone going there!

does anyone know hoe selective fordham/ eugene lang/ marymount manhattan is? I will be a transfer student- I'm a native New yorker- going to school in Mass- want to be in the city asap! any info please would help so much!

I know of one girl going to Marymount; I think she was an honors student in high school and she has a BEAUTIFUL voice. Don't know if that helps or not!

anyone have ANY information on how competitive fordhams and eugene lang ba theatre performance is? eugene there is no audition but fordham there is- any one- please help!

My daughter auditioned at Fordham the day after she auditioned for NYU in the fall of 2003. She ended up going to NYU as she had applied ED and was accepted. That being said, when she was at the Cherub program at Northwestern Fordham reps were there and she was quite impressed. Additionally, while she was auditoining and I had the opportunity to talk with some students enrolled in the drama program it was expressed to me that the program was very competitive. Fordham's drama program has improved dramatically over the past several years. In fact, the year my daughter auditioned at Fordham and NYU, NYU's graduate BFA program, which is incredibly selective, something like 20 slots or maybe even less with 800 people applying, accepted, I believe at least 3, if not 4 , of those accepted into NYU's BFA program were Fordham drama grads.

This is just the information I was told. My daughter did not find out about her audition status at Fordeham as she was accepted ED to NYU. The auditions for EA had many, many more students at Fordham, than those we attended at NYU. Don't know if this helps much, but it's what we were told.

thank you for that divamom- I know their program is a BA but I am so intrested in it- It seems incredible- anyone have an opinion on marymount manhattan or eugene lang..or even pace for that matter?!

Fordhams program is straight drama, they do no musicals and you only study acting there they are connected to a place in NYC where you can take voice lessons and Alvin Alley supplies the dance for credit program (all of this at extra cost). I know Denzel Washington is an alum.

Marymount has alot more to offer as they have MT, Dance, voice and etc..and I had a MT friend who recently graduated from there and loved it and she was quite talented.

My opinion is that they are not HIGHLY selective but, as we all know, this field in general is competitive.

so shortnsweet, you believe that fordham and marymount would be less competitive? I am strictly a acting major, looking for a mostly acting based program...I am also very intrested in eugene lang/new school university- i'd say those are my top three...I am in a different univeristy is mass. ad badly want to transfer out and go back to NY (where I live) and be involved in a serious and GOOD program...any advice? thank you for being so helpful thus far

i know someone who is in the Dance program at Marymount and from what i hear it is a good program but not particularly competitive (as compared to NYU or CMU) in terms of admissions. Also, the girl that i know was given a half ride scholarship at Marymount (completely merit based, she did not qualify for need based) and was not offered any scholarships at any other schools to which she applied (including NYU and TCU- those are the only others i know for sure she applied to but she applied to at least 5 others. just cant think of names right now)

i dont know if this helps since it involves the dance program not theatre or MT, but from what i have heard the MT and dance departments at Marymount are pretty interconnected so this information may stand in the MT department as well

no, thank you so much, it does help. If anyone out there has any more info on marymount or eugene lang or fordham, it would be so appreciated :-)
