Mayer hall of stouffer?

yikes… i got assigned to mayer hall of stouffer… definitely not my first choice. i read the brouchure and only 36 freshman live in there! I’m in a triple so i guess I won’t be too alone but is living with mostly upper classman as a freshman okay? And what’s mayer hall like?

I didn't apply for stouffer. My first choice was Harrison. I really wanted to live in a high-rise. Is there anyone who will be living in Hill? Sigh...

hrm, mayer... if i recall correctly mayer has these HUGE, amazing doubles that you'll be in a fantastic position to claim next year (house residents get first dibs on rooms). So don't worry so much about that. You'll probably be surrounded by freshman anyway, and you can always visit other people at hill/quad.

and blueants, I don't think hill really was anyone's first choice. But I guarantee you'll finish the year happy with your housing, as you make a lot of close friends.

What year are you in right now at Penn? Which dorms have you lived and are living?

I lived in a 4th floor hill double last year, and I'm living in a double in Sansom West this year. The hill rooms are really really small. Since there's already a desk and bed per person in the room, you only have space to fit a small refrigerator / tv cabinet on each side. When friend's come over to your room, you'll definitely be sitting on the beds. Still, I started to have a lot of fun as the year went on

thanks for providing such useful information...my mom was wondering if she could have a small refrigerator for keeping all my favorite fruits...

haha also definitely make sure to figure out who's buying the refrigerator/microwave/tv. It may sound obvious, but I really did know people with two refrigerators (both almost empty) and two microwaves. Also in hill, any way to maximize closet space is very very useful. Also be sure to pack a powerful fan for the fall, because hill has no AC and it can get very stuffy. The windows are of varying size (some are really tall and narrow), so be careful if buying a window fan.

Bathrooms are far away and dirty so bring good shower shoes + a robe if you're modest (but you will be amazed at the amount of nakedness you will see in the halls.... or maybe that was just my roommate). Also a very small file cabinet is definitely a good buy; since hill is so small as it is you really can't afford any clutter.

I guess I'll branch out from Hill advice and give some general advice: buy a sleeping mask. chances are you and your roommate will haev different sleep schedules or he/she will have the occasional all-nighter to pull, and the eyemask is great.

Oh, and NYC? I'm Hunter '05, what school are you from?

Oh and seriously get ready to have some good times; if you get a cool GA anything goes really, and you will have a lot of fun memories at hill

The only real downside to Mayer is the distance from a lot of classes one may take freshman year -- it is especially far for engineers or anyone who has to go to DRL often. However lots of people like Mayer and tend to stick with it -- then classes tend to become closer and you've still got an amazing room.
