I have a few questions about tamus undergraduate business school

How is it viewed outside of texas? Is it highly respected nationally or just within the state?

How does there program compare to SMU's, Villanova's, Texas, or Emory?

Do ibanking firms recruit from Texas A&M

How do graduate programs view Mays?

1) It’s viewed better in Texas than elsewhere since most A&M grads stay in Texas. With that having been said, it’s still a pretty good bschool and employers out of state will know that. It’s just not as easy to use the Aggie network out of state since there are fewer grads in other states.
2) Texas has a better bschool, especially for IB. Emory would probably be above A&M for IBanking jobs not in Texas. I’d go to A&M over SMU and Nova. Although if you know you definitely want to be in NYC Villanova might be better since it’s closer.
3) I don’t think they really come to the career fairs, but I know several students with IB internships and full time offers this year( some people at banks will ask for top students to send in resumes, but there won’t really be official on campus recruiting). Most of them are working at the IBanks in Houston, although a couple will be in NYC. It’s all about networking.
4) If you get good grades and do well here, you’ll probably be in a pretty good position for grad schools in the future.

I agree, I think Mays is highly respected in Texas. Not as much the farther you go…If you got a shot a McCombs, don’t pass that up if recruiting is your main criteria. Cox at SMU and Nova’s B-school are going to be expensive and not going to get you further, if at all, than Mays.

I had a pretty lengthy talk with a Mays grad from 1994, he got his MS in what MIS was called at the time. His son graduated from Mays recently, I think in '04 or '05, and he graduated with honors in Finance. He said his son is in IBanking but had to start off in a Houston firm but after getting experience, he works in NYC right now.

I got accepted to Mays for the summer and one of the best parts is the ability to apply to top 15 MBA programs later on. I’ve heard of some heading to ivies on a regular basis…
