Mays School: Received admission. Now, three questions.

My DS2 just got admitted to May’s School - within 2 days of applying! Thanks, TAMU.

Now, three questions:

  1. For Upper Level classes, can a student choose any major (Accounting, Finance, etc.) or is there a competitive process for selecting a major?
  2. DS2 had selected the Honors option on the application. When do students receive decision on honors program?
  3. Can a Mays School student opt for a second degree in Economics as well?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, you can basically choose any major - however you do have an overall GPA to meet in essential courses - nothing monumental, but you do need to meet it and take all required courses before continuing to upper division.
there are two honors programs: University honors & Business Honors program. They are entirely different & separate. BHP decisions use to come out starting in January and roll on thru maybe March depending on the year. It is highly competitive, more so than university honors. It is a major as well as an honors program. You can apply to both or just one, you can also be active in both if you so choose.BHP is roughly 75 students in the business school. You do NOT have to live in certain dorms if you’re in the BHP, University honors is the group that lives in honors housing (required). As for opting for secondary degrees outside of the business majors - that is done on case by case basis. They encourage minors vs majors as it is more do-able. The only students allowed to double major within the business school are BHP students. Keep in mind there are several other programs other than majors and minors available ( certificate programs, for example) that might better serve your student. Once you declare something ( a minor or additional major) it can’t be reversed so they advise you to wait to commit. You can work towards a program without committing to your final goal up to a certain point. I had two kids go through Mays, both were employed prior to graduation. Hopefully this answers your questions.

@AGmomx2 Thanks very much for responding - everything is clear now!
