I am currently pursuing m BBA in Operations and Marketing. Ive been thinking to get my MBA in Finance, but which program would be more benefitial to em if I want to pursue a career in risk management. Which of the two degrees have more value for companies like Goldman Sach, JP Morgan and related companies?

I can’t say that I’m the definitive expert on this but if you are looking for jobs with these i-banking companies, then the MBA in Finance is worth much more in terms of starting salary, potential job placements, and potential management mobility. The Master’s of Mathematical Finance is much more of an academic degree focusing on exploration of existing and theoretical financial models and rigorous analysis of those models. It’s a real academic exploration. There is, of course, some value to i-banks for those types of people who can develop new and innovative ways to value exotic options, stochastic risk valuations and what have you but I’ll bet you will be crunching numbers for the rest of your career with limited management mobility. If you enjoy that type of thing, go for the MS. If you want a degree that will open a lot of doors for you and make you more ‘employable’ in a variety of environments, go for the MBA. And just because your MBA had a focus in Finance doesn’t mean that you are limited to a finance type job. With the MS in Mathematical Finance, you are.
