The staff are unethical - politics and favoritism happens all the time. Students and affiliates get awards and better recognition if they collaborate in those undesirable activities with the staff. Sucks.
All MBA programs do this, look at Trump University run by a Dartmouth MBA grad, Michael Sexton. 
Its what it is, business is about contacts. Students that do not like smoozing should pick a different major, CSU offers a lot of majors and one can always get into business later by taking an accounting degree, for instance.
