I am considering a career change, and am heavily leaning towards accounting at this point. I currently have a non-accounting bachelor's degree and would like the pursue either an MBA (with accounting emphasis) or an Accounting MS/MBA Dual degree. I would be eligible to sit for the CPA exam with either degree. The MBA program with accounting emphasis is significantly shorter, and cheaper because it is offered at a public school. The MS/MBA dual program is only offered at a more expensive private school, and it is 56 credit hours instead of approximately 36. I would have to take accounting prerequisites for either program. My question is: would there be any advantage to having the MS in accounting AND an MBA vs. just an MBA with accounting emphasis? There is also a Master's in public accountancy offered at a nearby public college I have been looking at. This program was designed for those with non-accounting degrees, but still requires prerequisites as well.

Which program would provide the best foundation for becoming an accountant, and possibly moving up in the future? Any advice would be appreciated!
