<p>I have four strong interests in international relations, anthropology, psychology and international business. I enjoy international relations because I am completely in love with the world as a whole. I am fascinated with anthropology because i love to learn about other cultures. I love interacting with people on the business level and i have always been told by others I'd be great at it. So i have these four strong interests but i feel if i go only down the business route i will miss many things i enjoy. and i feel if i go down the international relations path maybe double major with anthropology i will be missing out on the many jobs that are available in the business world. So i am thinking about doing the double major but if that turns out to not be what i truly want is it possible for me to still get my MBA? I also have read recent studies done by many that said a lot of people who want to go onto graduate school (MBA, Law, Medicine etc.) tend to choose a easy majors like Anthropology, psychology because it can boost up your GPA and make you look like a better candidate for Grad schools. My ultimate school is to get into grad school. Is doing the anthropology worth it? My main concern-- If I dont get into Grad school right away, and want to find a job to pay back student debt etc, Im scared I wont be able to find a sustainable job right away before grad school. Whats better in terms of job prospects before starting Grad school (if I get in!): International relations, Business, Anthropology/psychology double major. I always wondered, if I decide to major minor in or if anyone has any other thoughts or suggestions that you think might help me that would be great.</p>
<p>No help :(</p>
<p>Honestly, do what you enjoy, grad schools look at a multitude of things and not solely your major. If you enjoy anthropology stick with it! If you enjoy what you do you will be more likely to do well and ultimately that’s what you want regardless of what path you take in life. Where I come from you can pursue a MBA with any bachelors degree, you don’t have to have a background in business though taking some econ classes wouldn’t hurt!
In regards to employment before grad school business is your best bet, they are a number of employment opportunities for people with Bachelors degrees. Anthropology and Psychology jobs are harder to find with only a BA or BSc, most require a graduate degree. However that being said, where I come from with a BA in Anthro you can work the National Parks and make decent (but not huge amounts) of money.
Keep in mind that you’ll change your mind n what you want to do, I have friends that have wanted to be lawyers and doctors since children, lifelong ambitions and they were smart enough to do it but half way through their first year of grad school they couldn’t put up with all the crooked and corrupt people in the system. Especially with Law and Medicine. The education is one thing, but the barbarity within educational institutions is also something to keep in mind! Do what you love and ultimately you’ll find your way and most importantly you’ll be happy.
In terms of paying off debt right away, Business is your best best right off the bat. However, coming from a family full of businessmen, CAs, CFOs, bankers, etc a MBA isn’t everything most of the time they look at experience as well. If you have a MBA but no experience you’re as useful as a book end. It’s a fancy piece of paper with no merit.
Make yourself a diverse candidate for Grad School, have good grades, pick up a sport, join some clubs, have a job, etc. Academics are important but they don’t just want a big regurgitating book of knowledge, they want a human being who is diverse and multifaceted as well
(As an anthro major I wouldn’t say it’s easy, especially at the higher levels where you have to identify bone fragments. Personally I found Physics easier but far less enjoyable!) </p>
<p>All the best with your choice, and whatever it maybe, good luck!</p>
