I could find some threads on Mc Combs vs Mays back in 2008, but how does it compare now. My son got into Mc Combs and Mays regular business and business honors at UTD. He is leaning towards UT Austin, but would like to know if McCombs is still preferred over the other two. Thanks for your insight!
If you buy into rankings, there are very few rankings of undergraduate business programs, but McCombs is ranked higher than the other two.
Major employers in Texas recruit at both McCombs and Mays. From what I can find, the NY banks don’t really recruit at either but when they do, they will go to McCombs.
I do not know much about UTD’s undergrad program but their reputation is more local than statewide or national.
I have known kids from both A&M and UT that have been recruited to NY finance firms. I do know UTD has a good business program. They do not have the national recognition of the other two but that being said sometimes it is better being the cream of the crop. Being in honors there may be more opportunity for better internships, the ability to attend conferences and more recognition by the businesses in the Dallas/FT Worth area which there are many.
The answer may lie in what his plans are for after graduation. Stay in Texas, move to either coast, certain industry and see which school has a better chance of getting him there.
