MCAT concerns

Alright, so I have a question that I've been getting conflicting advice on. I want to take Physics the summer after next year (my sophmore year) but in my AED (premed society type of thing) meeting last week the Senior panel answered questions for us and suggested that we study for the MCATs the summer of our sophmore year and take it at the end of the summer because it's just too stressful to take it for the first time during the year junior year. They also said it was really important to get things in early and that taking the MCAT early would be benificial for that. My concern is juggling physics at a top 20 university during the same summer when I'm doing all my studying for the MCATs. Is this wise?

I understand that my summer would completely be dedicated to school/mcat studying, and I'm fine with that - but I'm not sure if would just be way too much.

One of the seniors on the panel who had friends who did what I mentioned above said that they were miserable and ended up dropping or having to take the test later. I would love some feedback from those of you who have been there. Thanks so much.

AED gives good advice, but not mandatory advice. (i.e. it's a good idea, but optional)

It is not wise to take a class, study for the MCAT, and attempt to hold down an EC. The class is the thing that should get dropped.

The only advice I've gotten from an AED is "shock advised" or "no shock advised". Wise words.

Alright, so if I don't take Physics over the summer (when studying for the MCAT), the only other time I could take it would be next yr with Organic Chem. I'm also having to take an English course, courses for my major, and a research lab course/I'm also working in a research lab next yr as well. Would this be wise? Or, rather, the better solution next to taking it over the summer? thanks again guys.

You can also just push it back a year and either not worry about it for the MCAT (if you have ANY HS background, you might be okay with a Kaplan course) or just take the MCAT at the normal time.

I really do not feel comfortable at all not taking Physics before the MCAT. I did have it in HS and did well, but it was algebraic based and by time I take the MCAT it wouldn't be fresh on my mind at all.

What exactly is the "normal" time to take the MCAT? First semester Junior yr?

Can anyone speak on their experience juggling school/Princeton Review or Kaplan courses/MCAT studying? Also, to take the MCAT at the "normal" time, does this take you out of the running for getting things in early? Thanks again

Normal time is rapidly becoming an obsolete concept, but a few years ago it was April of Junior year. And no, that was still in time to get apps in on time.

If you're not comfortable, you're not comfortable. Just a note, though, that MCAT physics is also algebra based.

Really? AED told you not to take it during junior year? I've heard the opposite... studying during the summer (prob with prep course), practicing during first semester, studying hardcore over winter break, and then taking the test in january before the semester starts getting too intense. and IF NEED BE, you'll still have the opportunity to retake in april.
