MCAT Prep and Freshman Schedule??

Hi everyone

I'm a freshman going into a 4 yr university in the USA.

My first quarter schedule is planned to look something like this:

Freshman seminar (biology of evolution of plants. required class aka writing equivalent)

advanced general chemistry. can complete in 2 courses rather than 3

advanced math - multivariable calc

advanced general physics - calc physics. electricity/magnetism/kinematics

ok so after 1 year I would have finished my math requirements for my chem/bio major.

How's that look??

Also, what is the best prep for the MCAT? I'm looking to buy a book early now so Iknow what ot focus on and so I can start prep early. Thanks in advance guys

Try to change to a relevant biology course instead. There's a thread title "Coursework" which may help in that regard.

alright thanks. I planned to take bio sophomore year. The seminar I can't change and all the other things I think would be good.

However, now that you mention it, I will look at changing out the math for the 210 bio sequence at my school (Northwestern). I am coming in with 8 AP credits so that gets me out of a lot of classes. I noticed while planning my schedule that not taking bio my freshman year would hold me back since it's a pre requisite for a lot of classes. So, would you think it's as good idea to swap out the math for bio? I cannot do anything aobut the freshman seminar.

oh yea, I actually had an issue with my freshman seminar since my old one (fly-fishing...environmental chemistry), conflicted schedule-wise wiwth advancec CHEM 171. Anyways, these seminars are required by Northwestern as part of their liberal arts curriculum to provide some kind of writing proficiency class. That's what the classes are for. Maybe I can get out of my second seminar if I tell them I'm pre-med but I'll have to see.

Can you take a more obviously writing-based writing class? That might help ensure it counts towards premed English requirements while avoiding looking like a "non-majors" BCPM-attempt.

yeah I actually chose 10 possible seminars and the university just gave me this one. 5 of them I chose to be english/writing major seminars but they didn't give me any of those. Anyways, since there are 2 seminars during freshman year, I will probably get one of those the second quarter.

I chose the biology seminar first quarter because it is what I am going ot be double majoring in along with chemistry. The freshman seminar's professor also serves as a freshman advisor for us, so I wanted someone in the field I would be going into to give me tips and show me the ropes during the first few weeks.

I also have 8 other humanities cclasses I will be taking such as history and composition, drama writing, fiction writing, and psychology. When I chose these classes I had the medical focus in mind so I chose classes like "bioethics" for my philosophy class. What do you think of that?
