MCAT Prep Questions

How early would you suggest preparing for the MCAT?

6-12 weeks is pretty typical, depending on how much content review you need to do, and depending on whether you have other time commitments (classes or a job) or are able to devote most of your time to MCAT prep.

You should not take the MCAT until you are fully prepared and your full length practice exams scores are falling into your desired score range.

Also, be aware that MCAT scores are only valid for 3 years. Some med schools will only accept scores that are 2 years old or less. So don’t take the MCAT too early or your score may expire before you can use it.

Unlike other standardized exams, MCATs are not super scored and ALL scores, even old expired scores, will be reported to every med school you apply to.

And a hint: it’s better to start a new thread than necrobump an old, dormant thread.

My son suggests taking a practice test (NOT a real one for practice, but an online or book practice one). If you like what you are seeing for results, you don’t need as much time for prep. If you find a lot of gaps, plan on longer. Then set your schedule.
