What is a good MCAT score? I know above a 3.8 is good as far as GPA goes.

or a common data set of gpa and mcat scores for schools.

the question is better phrased as where can i find it...

I think I heard the goal is a 30 or better on the Mcat. That score combined with good core grades should get you an interview. I think when my son took the Mcat last winter/spring, he scored a 34 which put him around 10-15% mark for those taking that test. the high was one 38 and the low 6. I think the average was a 25. I could be wrong, going from memmory, but I think a 30 or better was the target.

Then it's money and time for applications... hurry then wait and wait some more, then secondary apps and hurry and wait and wait some more. Then hopefully the next stage will be airline tickets and interviews.

The MSAR will list the median MCAT and GPA's for various schools. The median for all matriculants is around a 3.6 and a 30. The median for top med schools is around a 3.8 and a 35.

30+ is usually considered good enough. There are too many variables to take into accound (gpa, ECs, race) but a 3.8/30 should be competitive.

Average MCAT score for all test takers is around 24

Average MCAT score for all applicants is about a 27

Average MCAT score for all matriculants is about a 30 (little less)

The current trend has been upward gains for all three categories.

Examine the median scores of the schools you want to go to and aim to beat those by 3 points or so.

thanks this is all very helpful

I find it very hard to believe that you need a 3.8 to be competitive. Attaining a 3.8 GPA in your science courses must be extremely difficult at any top 25 school.

MCAT, in my opinion, is a better prediction of your success in medical school.

Regardless of the legitimacy of these standards, the national average for GPA overall is approx. a 3.64, and BCPM GPA is ~3.57.

So by those standards, a 3.8 is indeed overkill.
