When should I be taking them MCAT if I'm planning on going into med/premed? I'm currently a sophomore in high school.

Generally around junior year of college but it also depends on when you are planning to apply for medical school as most medical schools will not accept an MCAT score more than 2-3 years old. You should take it after you have done the college level medical school prereq classes.

Premed is not a major. There are classes that most medical schools require you to have taken in college (usually 1 year biology with lab, 1 year inorganic chem with lab, 1 year organic chem with lab, 1 year physics with lab, math through calculus, a certain number of humanities classes). You can major in whatever you want as long as you take the prereq classes.

The premed section of CC has a lot of information.

What kinds of advantages does pre-med give vs. a regular major that involves the required courses?
