QUESTION is: How hard is MCB 102? (workload/time/material etc)

I'm a second year, pre-med student
and I was planning to take bio 1b and physics 8b, but didnt get into physics and this class doesnt even have waitlist so my chance to get in is pretty slim. (i took bio 1a/al and physics 8a over fall 08)

So I am enrolled in MCB 102 instead.. so my schedule looks like this:

MCB 102 (Calendar) 4 units
Classics 10b or 28 for breadth; 4 units
Korean 100b - which will be pretty easy.. i hope; 4 units
Public Health 116 - p/np only; 2 units; waitlisted #18
Biology 1b OR Another 4 unit breadth requirement

Total of 18 units.

In addition, I am doing officer work for a club, volunteer once a week, tutor for SLC, and MAYBE research (if i get a job).

** I have no idea how hard MCB 102 (with professor calendar) is so I'm conflicting whether I should take Biology 1B along with it.. Any advice? How hard is this class and how much time/work load? Help! :)

you should take MCB 102 during summer, it is easiest then. Most people take MCB 102 their junior year, not sophomore year.

Bio 1B is best in spring, so you should take it next semester. I will be a UGSI for it (I originally took it in Sp08).

Classics 10B (try to get into one of Tom Hendrickson's discussion section, he is awesome)
Korean 100B
Biology 1B
Another breadth requirement

Two biology classes in one semester sucks, I did that two semesters in a wrong Bio 1B and IB C185 in Sp08 and Bio 1A/L and IB 162 in F08.

I'm a second-year too. I probably wouldn't take bio 1B and mcb 102 together; next semester, I'm taking physics 8b and mcb 102, which i think is a bit more manageable. On the note of mcb 102, though, do we have to print out the 20-page pdf lectures notes for EACH lecture? Or is that more of a reader?

bio 1b is far better in spring than in fall though ^

anon5524485: I’m actually AP’ing out of Bio 1B YAY!

if you are premed, that is a bad idea.

i'm not pre-med, but thanks

also if you intend to go to graduate school or any other health school, they won't like it if you AP out of Bio 1B

I called the schools I'm interested in and they were totally cool about it WOHOO :)

how did MCB 102 go, i will take it this fall
