Mcb 104 textbook!!!!!!!

that IS one EXPENSIVE textbook!!! is the textbook essential to the class? Can I find this "custom" edition anywhere beside the student store or neds? Is anybody selling their old mcb 104 textbook (PM me)?

awwwww mannnnn I sold mine a few days ago for to Ned’s…!!! I paid $120 for it…I wish I was more patient.

I found it very helpful, but that’s because I struggled in the class and really had to use it when studying. It helps in understanding things, but it doesn’t go over anything that the professors (at least it was this way during the Fall when I took it).

how was this class sllamas???

yea it’s definitely helpful for the class (i would say more so than the book for 102) especially for the genetics section. i barely used it for the cell bio section. it depends on the profs though. i honestly haven’t heard super great things about the spring profs for 104

so what’s the consensus about this class? I’ve heard some say that it’s easier than 102, and some say it’s harder. Batman, I read in another post that you thought 102 was a joke. I’m glad; I was getting scared that I was the only one.

I mean I definitely took to the heart the advice I got from people on here who had taken 102 in the past. Went to lecture and section, never opened the book, only studied the night before = B+. Wasn’t as hard or dreadful (except for listening to Krantz gg) as people (not on here) make it out to be.

But I’m reading mixed reviews about 104 too. The teachers seem alright though: Amacher, Heald, and Rokhsar (okay maybe not Rokhsar). Can’t find anything about these three though for last semester.

I thought it was harder than 102 and I also thought 102 was pretty easy. In 104, the grading is harder (ie the curves are not as ridiculous as in 102… I felt happy when I got 1 SD above while I usually did better than that in 102) but the material itself is of comparable difficulty. The genetics section is pretty much Bio 1AL level with a few new things like epigenetics. Cell bio is pure memorization so in a way it was most like 102. Genomics was the hardest for me but the most interesting. The amount of testing was INSANE. In the fall, we had 3 midterms, 1 final, 3 big quizzes in section, and all of the other weeks in section there was a small “attendance” quiz. That was the worst part about 104. -_-

MCB104 in spring is quite different

 1. only two midterms + one final + 3 big quizzes + in-section quizzes worth 1.5pt each
 2. goes in the order of : cell bio - genetics - genomics (vs.genetics-genomics-cell bio fall)
 3. everyone does super well on cell bio because it’s all memorization
 4. genetics = much harder. problem-solving based (genetic inheritance, probability…etc)
 5. genomics: professor is not organized. kind of all over the place. part of the cumulative final.

how was the grading in the spring? (thanks for answering bee tee dubs. very helpful to know this)
