Has anyone gotten this email before ? If you did, how important is it? Since I want to show my parents around SF before they leave the very afternoon, I'm considering not attending it...

It sounds dumb to me. All the information I've ever needed regarding the MCB major came from upperclassmen who have already taken certain classes, doing a little bit of Googling, and going to the MCB undergrad affairs office in VLSB. Every year, the MCB dept prints a cool little handbook for MCB majors regarding everything they'll need to declare the major, what all the different emphases are, research opportunities, etc. Take your parents out and don't worry about this too much. Since it's only an hour long and there will be TONS of people there (MCB is by far the largest major in L&S), I don't think it will be very productive.

If you also want advice on where to take your parents in SF, feel free to ask.

Awsome!! Thanks tastyb33f!! :D

I'd like some advice regarding places to take my parents too :]
I have one afternoon & evening, one day and one morning. (Aug18 to Aug20)

So far in my list include:
1st Day
-We arrive okland airpot at noon, check in hotel (my move in is Aug19)
-A ride on the cable car down powell st, stopping by lombard st and ending at Fisherman's Whraf. (Btw, it's Fisherman's Whraf same thing as Pier 39?)

2nd Day
-Golden Gate park
-Move in (appx 2hous?)
-Exploratorium
-Embarcadero
-Chinatown

3rd Day
-Show my parents around in Cal

The date of events might change... is there anyother must-go place?
Again, Thanks!!

Uhh, what? Sounds useless to me. Go enjoy SF.

I think Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 are the same thing...it's also in the Embarcadero area.

Coit Tower might be cool to show them, but know that it's a pretty friggin steep climb to get up there.

If you're in Chinatown, be sure to take them to Golden Gate Bakery and ask for custard tarts - they're legendary. The bakery should be somewhere near the corner of Grant and Washington (if memory serves me). I always pick up a dozen when I'm in the area. If you're there around lunchtime, prepare to wait in line.
