A poster in another thread claimed that MCB upper div courses give out much fewer A's (only 5-10%) compared to the lower-div requirements.

I'm a BMB Track 1 major, and I looked up all of the courses on CourseRank and it seemed to be pretty similar to the 20-25% A's given out in lower-divs.

How accurate is CourseRank? Can someone verify/dispel the poster's claims?

CourseRank is sponsored by the ASUC thus it is gets all its data from the university. It is accurate.

That’s hearsay. Trust the data, not the yada yada.

Just out of curiosity are you pre-med or planning on grad school?

pre-med

but i liked bio 1a (hated bio 1al though lol) a lot so i wanted to study that kind of stuff instead of doing IB

^hey i’m BMB track 1 and liked bio 1a hated 1al too :)

taking c100a right now, both professors so far curved a LOT. there is no way only 5-10% of people are getting As. And the professors never make a big deal out of tests like the bio 1a profs and ****ing meighan did.

hmm interesting, is the curve comparable to that of bio 1a midterms? those were pretty generous i feel

Well the material is harder to understand than in bio1a and the tests aren’t multiple choice, but the curves are definitely more generous. First midterm was all just free response straightforward questions… i got 86/100 after knowing i screwed up some small things, average was 71, sd 13… and then i slacked off and went to a party the night before the second midterm and got 55/100 which was exactly average. But it’s ok because you get to drop one out of 3 midterms:). yeah sorry for posting my life on here haha.

lols all good, helpful stuff knowing how the class works
