So my telebears is coming up in about 7 hours. I want to do a minor in chemistry so i want to take chem c130 to fulfill a requirement. However, that is cross-listed with mcb100a which i heard was difficult. Would it be fine if I took it with this schedule? Also, which classes would be good to Phase I?

Chem C130/MCB 100a
Pb Hlth 116
Pb Hlth 150a
Physics 8b
Psych 2
Some Pe class

Thanks.

Edit: Would it be better to take an R&C course instead?

Contrary to what you might have heard before, MCB 100a is actually pretty interesting and you can do pretty well in it, if you try to focus on the concept, instead of just restorting to pure memorization. (I took it with Prof. Wemmer.) I was also taking couple of other science classes that semester too. I won’t say it’s the hardest class in MCB, but you do have to spend more than just a couple of hours studying for that class in order to do well.

Personally, I enjoyed MCB 100A much better than Bio 1A. Upper division classes tend to get more interesting. For me, Bio 1A contents were very general (it covers many different topics), as opposed to MCB 100A can be very specific. You can spent two or three lectures easily just on simple one equation - how it’s derived, how to interpret each variable, and how different values are represented on a graph, etc. For me, I used completely different ways of studying for MCB 100A than for Bio1a. For Bio, I just “memorized” lectures and did pretty well in the class. But For 100A, I spent more time studying in groups and “talking” to other people in the class. Pure memorization won’t get you a good grade on the midterms and finals. I was much more interested in 100A, so, even though I spent more time studying for it, I felt it was easier to get a good grade in than Bio 1A…
