McCabe scholarship

does anyone know how many finalists are chosen for the McCabe scholarship?

in my class (2010) and the year before, there were 6 McCabe Scholars each year

yes but do u know the number of kids picked as finialists (not necessarily the winners)

I don't know, but I'll be attending the McCabe reception/lunch/interview this Saturday. Are you going to be there too? Maybe we'll find out then.

Oh, does that mean that all finalists/whatnot already got letters? Is the McCabe scholarship only given to ED-ers, then?

No, McCabes are not given only to ED-ers - it's an RD thing for the most part. They know this early since they look at applications from possible McCabes first.

Chelmar,

You must be a Pennsylvania McCabe. I am from the Delmarva region and I already had my interview last Saturday. The Delmarva McCabes have already been selcted and I am one of them. Hopefully I will see you in the fall.

So, have the McCabe scholars been announced for this year?

I think they will be announced after final decisions are made about college decisions. (Unless you applied early decision and were offered the McCabe Scholarship, you don't have to accept until the final deadline.)

I just got a letter saying I was a 2010 McCabe Scholarship Finalist and am extremely excited. I applied RD to Swarthmore and had similar questions to the OP. How many McCabe finalists are there? Also, does being a finalist mean my chances of Swat admission are better? Thanks for any insight.

I would say it is a safe bet that you are in.

You really think so? I just don’t see how they could decide anything so fast considering I just submitted my app a month ago and they still have to figure out all the EDIIers stuff first, but I hope you’re right.

I don’t want to say “never”, but I honestly can’t imagine a McCabe finalist not being accepted to Swarthmore. The only way I can realistically seeing that happen would be if you went to the finalist weekend and acted all snooty like, “Well, I’m going to Yale; I only applied to Swarthmore as a safety” or somehow torpedo’d your own application by being obnoxious.

Capricho08, I live in the Delmarva peninsula and am praying I will get a McCabe scholarship next year (I’m a junior). What are your stats? What were your leadership credentials? I’m worried because I have several interesting leadership positions (piloted a nonprofit political magazine for which I write and edit, interned at the Lt. Governor’s, am captain of science olympiad, and captain of varsity swimming) but I don’t have any traditional leadership positions like class president or something like that. Do you think my app. will be thrown in the trash because I don’t like student council? I’m so nervous. I have all A’s and ~2100 SAT which I am trying to get up to 2250.

You don’t need to be class president. You founded a magazine and have two “captain” positions… that’s sufficient leadership. The rest really depends on your application and how Swat’s adcom feels when they read it.

i just got my letter today… does anyone know how many finalists are chosen?

I’ve heard 6, but this is unconfirmed.

raiderade, no schools these days are looking for only class presidents, and you know it. As long as you are a leader is those activities that you enjoy, your application will look just as strong as anyone elses.

You’re right, though, a 2100 is not very impressive. Better try to get that up. .
