Doesn't Bush sleep a solid 8 hours a night, every night? Doesn't that mean most of this board is busier than the president? They don't do anything. It's all hype.

The golden era lifted off during the last years of WW2, consisting of the baby boom and rise of today's [corrupt] corporations. It ended sometime in the 70s.

You seem to be the one asking for a stable economy, which Clinton did provide. There is this recent trend amongst people today trying to shadow Clinton as a horrible president. Pseudo intellects are leading the way in that cause.

Reagan, if I recall correctly, first tried to handle the depression though a free market approach. He belonged to, prior to the alignment, today's conservative. After that approach didn't work, he opted for government "interference", which has laid the foundation of today's [once] great society.

I said Franklin had other quotes as well.

So, you've never really tried alcohol?

Yeah, the only way to have a real golden age is by conquest. Japan is practically a perfect society in every conceivable, non-subjective way and their economy has been in the dumps since the 70's.

I cant see how it was at all golden when just before that we started to rack up a deficit. We lived in a welfare and social state. Were induced to Massive Cronyism, etc. Americas foreign policy from 1939 doesn't at all make us Golden. Like I said before you need a history lesson. I love how you changed your idea of the golden age from Clinton to now 1939.

I don't believe in govt regulated economies, I believe in volatile free market ones. Clinton in no way provided a stable economy especially when we had Recession, gutted military and surveillance, high unemployment and inflation, terrorist attacks, Booms and Busts. I mentioned it, but I take it you failed to read or understand it.

Once you have a collective economy, its collective. If you interfere with the auto regulation of a free market, the entire thing blows up. Interference in one sector can lead to unknown effects in another. When we get Booms and Busts and Recessions, we choose these things. They are known as recession cycles in economics.Recession cycles are man made and never ever happen in a free market. See how we now have the housing problem, its 100% due to govt regulation. You dont see recession and depression in pure free markets.

Ive read much if not all of Franklin's works and I can say, Ive never heard him use one of his most famous quotes backwards. The founding Fathers where all under the impression that one should never give up liberty for safety. They would be appalled if Americans gave up liberties, for terrorism.

Um, no ive never drank alcohol before.

I never changed my idea from Clinton to Roosevelt. If you look at my quote in your post, #16, you'll see how I detailed how the 70s resulted in the end of our Golden Era and how the 90s was a partial revival of it.

We did indeed live in a welfare and social state, and our country was better because of it. The technology boom, not including the dotcom boom, began at that point. Any downfall during the 90s was due to the internet bubble.

Without government regular, we'd continue to have 12 hour work days, horrible working conditions, no benefits, etc. The government doesn't only protect you from foreigners, but also from the atrocities that the employers put on the people. This is evident through the 19th and turn of the 20th century.

We are a product of a government related economy. Over the last 8 years we've seen businesses do what they want, and now the people are being screwed over. If the government didn't allow for these mortgage companies to act solely on their conceded behalf, we wouldn't have this problem.

Annual Unemployment Rate, Percent Here's a list of the unemployment rates through the 90s, at the very bottom. Not sure what natural unemployment is, but it seems about right.

The United States Inflation Rate By Year Inflation by year. Look at the 90s I guess?

A government (not todays), ordered by the people to watch over them as big business prevails is terrorism? I can't connect the dots there at all.

From Franklin's quote, I took the notion that in order to have one thing, you'd have to give up another. Opportunity cost. Our society is fashionably struck by economics today, and the opprotunity cost is the well being of millions upon millions of people.

So, why don't you care about people at all?

Geez, why is McCain the senile one when it's Biden and Obama that keep saying dumb things?

As posted in the other thread, the mental illness that is conservatism consists of fear and aggression as well. Trying to work things out like civilized human beings is pretty damn hard for you guys. Only if war hit our soil would you learn the extent of it misery.
