Other threads have both Auto and Non-Auto Admits and hence, starting one for Non-Auto Admit to McCombs --both regular & BHP.
Please update any information if you are a student (TX or OOS) or parent for McCombs & BHP Non-Auto Admit. Thank you.
D17 In-state non-auto got accepted into McCombs on Dec 7, still waiting on Plan ii and LAH. I was thinking the early admit was driven by honors but no news on honors yet. Applied to BHP too but not expecting a call.
did your daughter get an interview for BHP? Only the Autoadmits have so far been called for BHP interviews (from what I read on the other thread --could be wrong since I did not read every post) and got admitted earlier this week. So there might still be some hope!
@kg2013 - No she did not receive a call for interview, we don’t expect to be called, she is top 7% in a very competitive school and typically BHP is looking at top 1-2% kids. There was one kid from their school who is ranked 5 out of 500+ got into BHP already !
My son is OOS and non autoadmit - admitted to McCombs and interviewed for BHP on Dec 12. No update yet on whether he got in.
@txmomager - Yeah, I have had many passionate (!) arguments about the rank business - comparing schools across TX! In fact, in another thread, an Honors student (believe Eng or comp sci) mentioned, many people drop out after the core courses since they cannot cope with the rigor - wrote in that thread that is another proof that blind ranking is depriving top kids (outside 6% or outside 2% for top honors program) an opportunity to attend these programs!
Our kid goes to one of the Top schools in the Country and there are less than 65 students in his class! So Top 2% or even Top 6% are kind of meaningless for comparison to other schools?
In fact, Non-auto admit students from his class ave already got in to Stanford (CS), MIT (Eng), Rice (full ride),U of Chicago, Pomona College (full ride), etc. Usually, there are 2/3 kids who get into Turing scholars program at UT Comp science too!
I would like to see a change in their system at least for the Honors programs --comparing students based on common tests, ECs, AP course load taken, etc. - rather than rank!
If you are OOS, I think they are more flexible & holisitic …so good luck to CAparent2023! Will you be accepting McCombs (since you are OOS) if you do not get BHP?
I got an interview for BHP and I am not an auto-admit. I haven’t heard back from BHP, but I was accepted to McCombs on Dec. 7th.
Good Luck 4twins!
