Hi everyone! I will be a freshman at UT in the fall (Hook 'em), and I was admitted to the college of liberal arts with a major in government and a minor in psychology. Recently I realized that I needed to change my major to match my career which is either going to be a corporate attorney or a sports agent. So now i think i should major in marketing and minor in business. Is this a good idea? & also can i somehow change into the Mccombs business school before i begin at UT or do I have to wait to transfer?

You will have to apply as a transfer after your first year. “The process is extremely competitive. It is not recommended that students enroll in another college at UT Austin on the assumption that they will transfer into the McCombs School of Business.” See

You can be a corporate attorney without majoring in business–you simply have to get into law school (admission is essentially based on GPA in any major + LSAT score). Many sports agents are lawyers.

Congrats on your admission to UT. You’re wise to begin thinking about career options–there are many campus resources to help you as you explore ideas. Your path may take some twists and turns between now and graduation.

Good luck!

Just to clarify, you can’t minor in “business.” You need to choose a business subset.

If you want to be an attorney/agent, I’d suggest double majoring in finance or marketing and political science or English. Get used to reading an insane amount of content and persuading people. Also, most sports agents take an a$$ kissing class in college.
