mccombs business school

i will be an early graduate this coming up year. Since Im doing this, i wont have a chance of doing calculus, will this hurt my chances of getting into the business school? what are all of the requirements to get in? I know it is really competitive and I am kind of worried about getting in. I get mainly A's in all upper level classes, i am in NHS and have a million volunteer hours and EC activities. Do i have a chance?? any info is appreciated!

McCombs, along with Engineering and Communication, is really difficult to get in to. They start with the top 1%, and move downwards accordingly. It isn’t impossible to get in if you’re outside of the top 9% (ruling for this year), but it’s difficult. What is your rank, UW/W GPA, how many AP courses have you taken, what is your SAT and or ACT score and ECs? I don’t think not taking calculus will affect your chances (however, I really don’t know), but I do know that you do have to take a Calculus readiness test (ALEKS) upon getting into McCombs and attain a certain score to take M408C or M408K. I hope that helps

Don’t be dissuaded if you haven’t taken calculus. I realize it’s a requirement, but i am sure McCombs has a much more in-depth approach to looking at applicants.
Sounds like you’re heavily involved in ECs and might have some decent leadership experience. If you have solid overall academic background and legit leadership experience, then your chances are good.

Just keep in mind, top engineering colleges and b-school don’t view you as “oh, he/she didn’t take calculus so we can’t admit him/her.”

Good luck!

P.S. a friend of mine got into BHP and she didn’t take calculus in HS.

my unweighted GPA is around 3.7. I know im in top 8% but prob closer to 4%. my ECs/leadership are JV cheer 2009-2010, JV Captain 2009-2010, Varsity cheer 2010-2011, Student Council 2 years, NHS, Cross Country and Speech and Debate Team. My SAT scores were awful, so i am going ti take the ACT soon and according to practice tests ill get around a 30.

also this is my schedule next year
AP statistics
AP 2D portfolio
Dual Credit english, econ/govt, biology
Debate
physics

I think you have a very good chance. Try to get your ACT to about a 32 or 33 and I think you should still try taking the SAT again. Oh, and are you out of state or in state? I think that even if you didn’t get into McCombs (although being top 4% helps a lot, so I think you probably will) you will still get in to your second choice, and you can always internally transfer.

im in state. I really hope I get in, i dont know

*i dont know what my second choice would be!

Don’t stress! Being top 4%, you’re definitely in. Doesn’t guarantee you admission to McCombs, but you’re still guaranteed admission to UT.
