Mccombs Internal Transfer

So by the end of this semester I will either have a 3.70 or 3.64 (still waiting on grade to come in). I took all courses needed to transfer. Do you think I have a good chance of getting in? I still have a back-up school in case I don't, but need to answer them soon on whether I am coming or not and I'm just paranoid that I won't get accepted. :/ Are the applicants super competitive? And if you got in last year what was your gpa?

Thanks.

You will be borderline. I remember a guy last year who didn’t get in with a 3.66.

I’m applying too. I’ll have a 3.9 UT (lost the 4.0 because my Microtheory professor only gave 6 a’s in a class of 100+ :frowning: )

I really wish they wouldn’t wait until July to admit students. Considering they let a set number in now rather than varying it, there should be no reason to make us wait. Once the application closes, let us register.

Actually a 3.95. Not that that will make much of a difference.

Borderline? o.O And he had a 3.6 and did not get in? Either he lied or there is something off about their admission process because I have two friends who got in last year, one had a 3.4 and the other 3.5 something. Both got in. So why would they get in and not someone with a 3.6? Weird. I would take it up with the school if I found out people got in who had a gpa lower than mine.

Plus the business councilors all told me a 3.6 is safe to get in. Ugh, Then again they all tell me different things. -_-

And yah it sooo lame they wait until July. Ticks me off. But oh welll. Haha turns out my gpa was 3.70. Hope it good enough this year!! ^_^

It was weird that he didn’t get in with a 3.66. He was on this board and had to go to UH to do business. It might have been because he was a junior. IIRC he also didn’t do too well in Calc 2. You should be good though.

Do you guys know when UT started requiring Calc I and II and Micro and Macro Econ?

Someone told me that this would be the first year. If you guys could confirm/refute that would be great because I don’t know how reliable my source is. If it IS the first year, do you think this will have a big impact on the minimum GPA for admission?

I hate to being back memories but I was the guy that didn’t get in that yall’ are referring to. I was told that those with lower GPAs got in because they completed the pre-reqs at UT including both Calculus classes unlike others who took them at ACC or another CC.

I also had to drop a class (but I still completed my requirements and met the hours) and was told that dropping that one class was a turnoff along with the fact that I went a few credits over their limit.

@ moochi, you should have no problems getting in. In case you don’t, I would seriously consider appealing the decision if possible.

Aali, when you say a few credits over the limit do you mean 90 hours? They seem adamant about not letting people with that many hours in.

Odyssey, this will be the second cycle where they require all four indicator courses to finished prior to admittance.

Wow. o.o I’m sorry Ali. :frowning: I took Cal 1 and 2 at community college. =.= That is dumb because they said it wouldn’t make a difference where you took it. Lame! And a few hours over? Man that sucks. And yah if I do not, I will appeal lol.

I transferred into McCombs internally last year so I can tell you’ll what I know. I had a 3.87 GPA and did ALL my indicator classes at a CC. Last year’s cutoff was a 3.4 so that meant that everyone above a 3.4 got in.

@AAli4Real: I am not entirely sure why they denied you for taking indicator classes at CC. I know a lot of people who just took bs classes at UT and maintained a high GPA to get in McCombs (including myself). I talked to the main adviser a few times last year and he told me that they don’t care where you take indicator classes. I assume you had over 90 hours when you applied because that is the only reason I can see why you would get denied.

@odyssey212: This is the 2nd year where you have to complete all 4 indicator classes.

Also, don’t worry about not getting in the classes that you’ll want. They leave some space open just for internal transfers. Just make sure you wake up early in the morning of the day you are supposed to register and sign up for classes.

I’m guessing going over the 90 credit hours limit was the real reason, although, I kept getting told that with a lower GPA but having taken the pre-reqs at UT (especially Calculus) could get you in if there is space.

It had to be the 90 hours. They are extremely adamant about not letting people in with that many hours.

Hey fellow internal transfer hopefuls. I can’t believe we are about to find out in a couple of weeks. It feels as though it has been forever.

I am a little nervous too. I got a 3.83 this year, which isn’t too bad but is much lower than what I was hoping to pull off. I did 3/4 of my indicator courses at a CC, not because the courses are more difficult at UT, but because of time and money.

I hope they don’t hold that against us.

Ugh. Few weeks. :frowning: I am anxious.

Results came in! ^_^

WOOOOOOOH!

Thanks for posting moochi, I just checked! YAY

Congrats moochi and caligirl23… and I’m surprised they released the decisions a week early. But I guess they realized there is no point in waiting if the decisions are already made.

Welcome! And thanks.

Congrats to you guys, you’re hard worked paid off!

Thank you!

Have you two decided on a major yet?
