Is it a good idea going to Texas-Austin and trying to pull of an internal transfer to McCombs. How competitive is it

no, only because it is not worth switching schools if its not a guarantee to get into what you want. I'm from CA and applied to unc and uva, but realized even though those are great schools it's not worth moving across the country for something thats not guaranteed. maybe had I not gotten into any of my other schools then I would consider them, but I feel you switch schools because it is better and you are getting the program and education you want, although you may most likely get in because you are so determined there are no guarantees.

I have quite a few friends that have done it like that. McCombs is pretty difficult to get right into if you don't live in Texas and have really good grades. Internal transfer would be easiet, but then again nothing is guaranteed. I believe you can check the mccombs.utexas.edu website to find a page with their internal/external transfer stats for the last year. It is very competitive, like you said.
