McCombs School of Business

Hi everyone, I was just accepted to McCombs on Friday, January 18, 2019. I thought I would list some of my stats for people who are curious in the future.

My SAT/ACT scores were definitely not competitive at all. SAT: 1260 ACT: 23 However, I did receive high scores (nearly perfect) on the essay portion of the SAT and ACT; whether or not this helped me, we will never know.

Rank: Top 6% (specifically top 3%). 4/138

High School: Hamshire-Fannett high School. Known in the area for high test scores on STAAR tests. Very rural and conservative. Teachersand Curriculum: Subpar, so it is easier for the brighter students to get a higher ranking (the key is to take all AP classes throughout high school).

IMPORTANT EXTRA INFO
Although I wasn’t strong in test scores, I did attend an application only camp at McCombs over the summer, and I believe this is the only reason I got into McCombs. I was fortunate enough to be chosen for this all-expense paid camp, and at the camp I met with several recruiters and admissions officers and got to know them, and was even invited to a recruiting meeting a few months later. Out of 850 applicants for the camp, I was 1 of 50 that were selected. Without this, I don’t think I would’ve gotten accepted, so I highly recommend that people apply to this camp.

Your admission simply proves that when UT states that they apply a holistic admission process, they really mean it. Test scores are simply just one part of the calculus. My son was admitted on 01/18 to McCombs also with a 1340 SAT and a 15% ranking at a large suburban school. Considering his stats, I must confess that we were pleasantly surprised that he was admitted to McCombs; however, he had exceptional ECs and great essays which obviously was a difference maker in regards to his personal achievement index score. Now you guys just need to make the most of this opportunity. Good luck.
