McCombs vs. BHP

I will be a freshman in the fall at McCombs, but I was not admitted into the BHP. Is there a significant difference between the regular business school and the honors program? Will I miss out on opportunities/potential internships because of it?

Also, is it difficult to get accepted into the BHP sophomore year? I know they only accept a few students into the BHP each year. Any insights are appreciated :)

McCombs is a Top 10 business school in its own right with the #1 accounting program in the country, but yes, there is a difference.

BHP students according to their diagrams appear to earn more money on average in their internships during school and at their first job afterwards.

Yes, there are some top firms that will recruit nearly exclusively from the BHP students.

The staff is more focused around your success (smaller classes, easier to get better instructors, dedicated advisers, etc.)

Little stuff like honors dorms admittance, which could help for study groups.

Some perks at the libraries.

That is a brief summary of the more intangible benefits:

There’s nothing that hard work on your part probably can’t make up for, but it’s easier to succeed if people set you up to do so. You’re at UT it’s massive with enough opportunities for anyone that will seize them (amazing study abroad, faculty, facilities, libraries, and network); you just have to want it more because there may be less people pushing you in that direction.

Good luck. :-)
