I wanna know about major scholarships!!!!!!!

It's been like 2-3 weeks since I got admitted...

I just got admitted to Faculty of Arts with an ACT of 34 and GPA of 92.5, but I didn't get any scholarships.

Minerva says "Admitted Pending Final Results" and lists "Advanced Placement Exam Result" as a new required document. Does anyone have any idea what results they expect? Is there a certain grade that would cause them to reject me?

emil -- i know your pain!

and congrats cpismith! how long did it take mcgill to notify your decision after they've recieved everything from you?

HEY EVERYONE!

I'm a US student (2330 on SATs, 800/790/780 on SAT IIs, top 1% of class of 600 people, attend public school outside of Boston), and I was just admitted ("pending final results") to the Desautels Faculty of Management! I'm so excited! McGill isn't one of my top choices, but it's the only non-reach school I applied to... so if I don't get into any of my top choices (which is very likely), I'd still be really happy to attend McGill! I hear such great things about it, and I think it seems like so much fun to live in French-speaking Montreal and be around so many people from all across the world. I'm just so relieved to have gotten into a college, especially since it's a college I'd actually realistically attend.

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted!

plumsnow, what does your status say exactly?

It says "Decision: Admitted Pending Final Results"

I don't know anyone from the U.S. (or anywhere else, actually) whose status has read "Decision: Admitted" - does such a status exist?

I've noticed some people were rejected from programs prior to the release of their first semester marks. McGill contacted me yesterday claiming they had not yet received my first semester transcript, which we figured out was a mistake on their end, but my question is whether that means first semester grades are a formality, as in they won't review ANY applications unless first semester grades are included, or that they need the first semester grades to finally make a decision...?

They NEED first semester grades to decide.

Interesting... someone on the previous page was denied before they released their first semester grades...

^plumsnow, I think everyone's status, if admitted, comes with the "pending final results" clause. Mine does in any case...sending final grades in to your college happens for almost all colleges so I don't think it's anything to worry about. :)

Thanks esgee. Is this the general "B's are fine, C's are risky" rule (common in the Ivy League schools, and others of their prestige), or does McGill actually expect its admitted students to maintain their grades/GPA?

I sure hope not...That's stupid. I think as long as you get Cs and above they should be fine :) But call 'em and ask!

@plumsnow

I think it says in your letter...
I believe mine said that as long as I don't fail anything, which is definitely not likely.

sebcartwright: what letter are you talking about? did you receive a letter in the mail after your admission?

have any other US students had trouble sending SAT scores? I have sent them twice, but Minerva still says "not yet received/processed." Also, do we have to do something separate to send AP scores?

So I sent in my mid-years last week, and got a decision today (for those of you that also had problems with mid-year reports). Some general background info for those of you interested:

ACCEPTED: Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering
*Test Scores: 32 ACT, 770 Math II, 610 Physics, and a Sub-600 Literature Score (For those of you that panic about SAT Subject scores).
*Overall UW/W GPA : 3.4, 4.0.
-However, my Junior Year/Senior year - 4.4-4.5 weighted, or about a 3.7 Unweighted. So I think McGill heavily emphasizes junior/senior year.
*AP Tests: a 1 in Computer Science (my freshman year... long story), and a 5 in Calc AB. Taking 4 more this year

Hope this gives some hope to other applicants... McGill seems to be smart with decisions. They look at specific subjects depending on major, and understand that people just have bad semesters sometimes for various reasons.

Anyone have some general information on financial aid for US students? I know there is the Entrance Bursary Program, but are we less likely to get aid?

And lastly... the "Admitted Pending Final Results" means... accepted right? Hopefully I'm not celebrating for no reason, or else this would the most embarrassing post in the history of collegeconfidential.

Haha jchang yes that means you were accepted! Congratulations!!

ah thank. really wasn't trying to sound self-centered or anything. I just found it to be awkward. I really rather have a huge banner that says "Accepted!"

If anyone has any questions regarding my statistics or anything let me know and I'll be glad to help.

I know what you mean. It feels like "Admitted Pending Final Results" isn't as good as just getting a basic "Admitted" or "Accepted"! But... at least we know that those statuses don't even exist, so we definitely got in haha
