I would anticipate it will go up. Almost every university has seen an increase in applications this year- I can’t imagine McGill is any different.
I just got “Further Review Required” on my application. They are asking me for English Language Proficiency. Does this mean they want to admit me when I submit these English Language Proficiency results? @SwimmingDad
“I’m an international student who’s studying at a Canadian high school.” How long have you been studying in Canada? Are you at an English or French high school?
As for your question it is a good sign but no guarantee.
Congratulations! It is a really terrific school. As a parent, after just the first semester we saw a big jump in my son’s critical thinking skills. And his world view was expanded greatly: his larger friend group is from 5 continents - it is a wonderfully diverse university. We are enormous fans of McGill. Congrats again!
Thanks for all the info! Where did your son live as a freshman?
Hi would you mind sharing your daughters stats? Thank you so much.
Thank you! Exactly why McGill has been at the top of her list.
He was in Upper Rez - Molson Hall. (Upper Rez has been closed this year.) Upper Rez is VERY social - but when my son needed to study on a Friday night there was always someone to study with. All of the rooms are singles which turned out to be great - he could close his door and get privacy when he needed it. He did curse having to walk up and down the hill when it was icy - but he would tell you that he is thrilled he was in Upper Rez.
Dorm life this year was tough for the first years - lots of restrictions in response to COVID. Hopefully next year things will get back closer to normal. Again, most kids feel like where they lived was “the best”. The real key is during Frosh to really participate and meet people. And, join clubs - hugely important in building out your friend group!
4.922 UW GPA out of 5
(5.46 W)
No ACT or SAT test scores submitted.
She did have to submit her 2 AP scores but admissions assured us they don’t use those for admission decisions. (She got a 3 and a 4 so I am sure they didn’t consider them.)
This is too funny. Only seeing your post now. My son applied also in November with “Further Review Required”. He is in the IB program and they requested his predicted IB scores. It will take some time for his teachers to do this paperwork, so we won’t be hearing soon I suppose. Like your daughter’s stellar stats… my son is 3.998 UW (and 4.3 W, but truly a 4.5W from a transfer). I’m 100% sure she will be accepted. My daughter was accepted 3 years ago.
for reference i have exact dates…
faculty of arts
Applied: Jan 10
Accepted: Feb 5
stats: 34 ACT, 3.93 unweighted
Quick question. So, I applied to civil engineering with an IB predicted of 39/42. They just requested for my final semester report in which I got 36/42 and a 4 in HL Chem (I have a 6 predicted). My predicted is fine but my semester 1 is below the last year cut offs…
How screwed am I lol?
Hello! At what point did they request your predicted IB scores, and are you at an American HS? My D has not been asked for IB, just self reported grades. UBC requests predicted IB scores as part of the application, but it’s not super clear when/if McGill does. Thanks! Her app reads ready for review.
Hi ! Right from the start, I submitted my grades for year 11 and my predicted IB grades all together. And nope, I live in Spain Good luck to her!
Daughter accepted into Faculty of Arts. Turned down for A&S and Science.
Submitted 1st Semester grades two weeks ago.

Congratulations! When did she apply? Did she receive her decision today.
She applied at beginning of November … they seemed to be waiting for semester grades. Received decision Feb 17th.
i applied late november and my application for bioengineering was “reviewed - decision pending” for a month. i was admitted to bioengineering pending final results yesterday. was getting quite nervous and regretting only applying to one faculty. i was never asked for my first semester grades so i suppose they just went on what they had. good luck to everyone still waiting!
stats in case they’re useful to someone:
35 act (33 math, 36 science, 36 reading, 36 english), 105.6 weighted gpa, class rank 1/521, and 9 ap exams (physics 1 (5), chemistry (5), lang and composition (5), world history (5), french (5), biology (5), human geo (5), environmental science (5), and US history (4) plus 5 more this year (stats, bc calc, physics c mech, physics c emag, and lit)
When did you switch from ready for review- to review decision pending? We are still ready for review.
Congrats on your admission! You have great stats and it’s well deserved !
my school is outside Canada, but it follows the Alberta curriculum. Don’t you think that they would’ve already rejected me if my grades weren’t high enough? thanks
