McGill '26 Application Cycle

Also regarding housing - From what I read and research Upper Rez is good for first year to make freinds and be with other american students? Any other suggestions? Duglas Hall? She likes to have a roomate , but likes quite and study a lot … so looking for the best fit .
thank you

I am not entirely sure! For our daughter, when she was ready to commit, in early April, she accepted the offer then uploaded her Certificate of Citizenship. A day or so later, things (legal and financial) changed in Minerva.
Later on, 3 months after crossing the border and under section 8c, she sent in all the paper work and is now paying « Quebec tuition » which is a true bargain, especially since it is all covered by her scholarship.

My senior son is also waiting on other universities, Canadian and American, before making his final decision and accepting his offer.
We are planning a March trip to MTL.

Our daughter stayed in Solin Hall which is an apartment style building. She did not want of food plan and just wanted to cook by herself. She was very happy there but, it is not for everybody. It is a 4-stop metro ride to campus.
I have heard that Douglass Hall is great but almost, all people are Major Entrance scholarship as they get one of their first 2 choices.
A few people on this CC chat have better knowledge of the Rez and I am sure could chime in also.

Most kids tend to like their Rez. Upper Rez is definitely very social - but fear not there is a lot of studying going on as well. Almost all rooms are singles - which for my son was nice so that he could sleep or study when he wanted to. Douglas is a lot of kids on entrance scholarships - great mix of kids. New Rez and the others (slipping my mind at the moment) are large dorms from converted hotel rooms - so typically two queen beds and a private bathroom. Solin is apartments that are a Metro ride away from campus - but kids who choose Solin seem to really like it. My advice: talk with your child about singles versus sharing a room versus an apartment. Settle on one and then rank those in the housing lottery the highest.

When did he send his application?

Sent a long time ago (October) but semester didn’t end until last week. Updated semester grades in Minerva on Monday and heard back on Tuesday night. Others on this site also mention a very quick turnaround after 1st semester grades are in.

Daughter submitted first semester grades Friday evening and got acceptance 1/31. Was so worried there’d be a delay since she couldn’t submit self-reported grades until the semester ended 1/27.
