Thought I would take a moment to share our experiences with US students (my two kids) applying to McGill - one in 2017 and one in 2019. Both applied Faculty of Arts (accepted) and Desautels (rejected). The other note is our HS’s first semester doesn’t end until the third week of January. Also, both were in the 3.4 UW range and a 31 ACT. (Our HS sends about 6 kids per year to McGill - rigorous HS well known to admissions.)
Both my kids applied early and got “Further Review Required”. For most US students they will want to see the first semester grades…unless you are WAY above the minima.
We uploaded first semester grades in early February. Both kids had their Faculty of Arts acceptances within days. In past years, once you get into January/February the decisions seem to come quickly. Also, you need to be checking Minerva. My sons hated the stress of having to check everyday and delegated that to me.
Good luck to everyone applying. The McGill application review method is unique…but I must say it strikes me as incredibly fair.
Thank you for the comments SwimmingDad.
From the previous year’s results, at least by this time people applied early should get “Further Review Required”. However majority people here still “Ready for Review”.
It is the most stressful part for me.
I was talking with a Service Point Member and thought I would update you all. This is what they told me:
“Some students have been updated to Further Review yes. This is the most likely outcome when you are MISSING a document (not positive, because it means we are waiting on you for something). You just need to sit tight and wait. Ready for review is good news. It means that you are pending a decision which is why most of the people are ready for review which means pending a decision.”
@minifuzz At this time of year the missing document is usually the first term grade 12 transcript. that needs to be sent in as soon as it is available. So you can go from Ready for Review to Further Review Required. Once the first term grades are received it goes back to Ready for Review.
Son was admitted to Desautels in 2018. They asked for the spring term mid terms before admitting him, so I would agree that they are somewhat later than other faculties, though nowhere near as late as University of Waterloo ENG/CS.
Hello!
I am from India and got accepted to McGill (Faculty of Science: group Physical, Earth, Math & Computer Sci )
I received a decision on 13th December 2019
They did send me an e-mail saying that they have made a decision.
