McGill Admissions

How tough are admissions to McGill for american students. I have acanadian citizenship but i live as permentant resident in US. can someone tell me about mcgill as a schools and especially there admission standards. thank you

admission to mcgill from the US is completely numbers based, no essay, no EC's

if you've got the numbers (usually like a 3.5+UW and 1300+ SAT's) you shouldn't have a problem getting in from the US.

i have a 3.4 unweighted gpa because i screwed up in french class 9 and 10th grade (will be bad at french hurt me) however ive done well in all my other classes and they have all been honors or AP. By graduation i will 12 honors and 9 AP courses. My weighted GPA is 4.8 I am also ranked 15 out 157 so its top 10%. So would i have a good chance at McGill. Should i treat it as a reach math or safety?

McGill doesn't look at 9th grade grades.

That wont really change my GPA much though. However would i be bale to get in with those grades and on the SAT's ill be above 700 for both math and reading

anyone know anything about McGill

skibob, based on your rank and GPA, i'll assume you have a pretty good shot. What were ur SAT scores (or ACT).

720- math 750-reading I am taking SAT II in may. Can you also tell me about the school itself. I want to major in econ or poli sci, but i want to do pre med as well.

i would say that you are likely (almost certain) to be accepted with a 1470 and a top 10% rank. mcgill is very strong in sciences (and thus, premed) and has a strong medical school as well.

as for poli-sci...it seems to be pretty strong, i applied for econ, and there is someone on CC who is doing the honours (yes there is a "u") econ program who can probably tell you more about their polisci program.

DS was waitlisted with a 3.6 unwtd and 1300 SAT

i have an extremley tough schedule. With 10 AP's and 12 honors by the end of high school.

Does McGill really focus on french classes. Because i completed 4 years of french however in 9 th and 10th grade i got a b- and c+ and then i dropped french 11th grade because of scheduling conflicts and i will not take it in 12 th grade. however i did fnish french 4. Instead of French i take a science this yr. Next year i will have an extra social studies class. How will my poor french performence hurt me and can it be offset by my canadian citizenship

Unless you intend to study French at McGill, it shouldn't make any difference compared to having B- and C+ in some random class in 9th and 10th grade (do they even look at those years anyway?). Canadian citizenship means you get considered along with the other Canadian applicants and will pay Canadian tuition if you're accepted...

will that increase my chances to be up against canadians. Also i do not see how that is possible seeing as i completed all of high school in america? Can someone tell me about itself? its reputation among medical schools in the US?

Eventhough you studied in the US, as a Canadian citizen you are not considered an international student and do not belong to that "pool". I don't know if that helps you or not (I think it should help, as they take in more Canadian than International students, so in theory there should be less competition, depending on the number of applications of course).

OK thank you. Also whats this buisness about different faculties in McGill. Which faculties must i apply to if i want to major in econ or poli sci but also do pre-med.

If you want to do pre-med then why aren't you going to major in science?

you do not have to major in science for pre med. I just have to do well in the relevent science courses for medical school as well as my major. Does anyone know anything about this faculty stuff at McGill
