My older sister is just finishing her a double major degree in Piano performance and composition at McGill. Her experience has been wonderful and she is now moving on to further studies in Paris. McGill has the best music program in Canada and I am sure it is on par with the top American schools. Plus...Montreal is one of the coolest cities I have ever been to, so that is always a bonus. If you're considering other Canadian music programs, I would also look into UBC and U of Toronto. Hope that helps.

I'm a vocal performance major @ McGill. It's a wonderful music school, top in Canada. It was ranked as one of the top 10 in N. America by Princeton Review. The school is in the heart of Montreal, an amazing cultural center! McGill University is a top-notch university and ranked one of the top in the world.

The strengths are it's location, its academic resources, the facilities (a new building was just built housing the largest and most state-of-the-art recording facility in North America) its wide choice of program options, and the level of performance opportunities and teacher/prof resources. I would say weaknesses are that the reqs for studies there are very intense and can bog you down while also needing to practice and rehearse constantly. Other than that I can't think of anything- it's a terrific program, and if you're American it's very cheap tuition! Montreal is beautiful, and has a very active music scene.

UofT and UBC have pretty good programs, as does University of Western Ontario and Royal Conservatory (Glenn Gould School)

I chose McGill over offers from MSM, Northwestern, Oberlin, BU, NEC, and UMich.
