Anybody is familiar with the Autobiographical Letter? Is it new in 2022? Any suggestions on the format, length and points to cover (family background, summer programs, academic interests, ECs unrelated to major)?
Is that the same as the Letter of Recomendation that the student had to write for him/herself? That’s something my son had to do last year – but I think it was for a McGill scholarship, not the application in general.
It appears to be for everyone and is listed under Minerva as one of the documents to upload.

Was your son given guidelines for his scholarship letter?
I’m pretty sure there was no autobiographical letter last year – at least not for the degree program he was applying for (Interfacuty in Arts and Science). As for the scholarship letter, it was for a departmental merit award, and it was just to write a letter of recommendation for yourself. I am pretty sure no other guidelines were provided.
What program is your student applying for?
My daughter applied both to the faculty of Science and Faculty of Agriculture - don’t recall any autobiographical letter!
I wonder if it’s a new requirement for the 2022 applicants
Thanks. D22 is applying to the Engineering, and the AL appears not to program specific. It’s listed under the general page, Step-by-step guide → Uploading documents → Admissions Document Upload page
I must add, that besides increased work, she’s not worried about the content, just wonders how to approach it.
S1 (senior at Desautels), didn’t have to write one. Sounds new.
Odd, I’m applying to engineering too and I see nothing like that (Applying from US)
Does anyone know what McGill is looking for, here?
