McGill Chances and Questions

Hi! I'm currently a US Highschool Senior considering McGill as one of my top choices

My stats are
4.46 weighted GPA
7 AP classes throughout highschool (1 sophomore year / 2 junior year / 4 senior year)
2110 SAT I (800CR 660M 650W)
720 US history 710 Literature and I just took Chem and Math IIC today

I wanted to apply to the faculty of science as my first choice and the school of arts and science as my second, but almost all the faculties require an SAT II for math. Does this have to be IIC or could it be just Math I? I studied for IIC today and still bombed it, so I was wondering if SATII math I would count for anything? I do fine in math in school, but do so poorly on standardized tests for math T_T

I was planning to retake SAT I december, but I'm thinking of maybe switching it for SATII math to meet mcgill's testing requirements. They don't superscore either :( . I intended to retake SAT I again to improve my math score for american schools.

What faculties are hard to get in to and which are easier? Any tips? I'm so stressed out ;~;
thanks in advance!!

Here are McGill’s admission standards: [Admission standards (US) | Applying to Undergraduate Studies - McGill University](http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/admissionsguide/standards/unitedstates)

At least on this page it does not seem to say that you need an math SAT II, just any two SAT IIs from the list, each above 620. McGill’s application is a numbers based checklist. If you exceed all the requirements your in. If you don’t your not (sorry there isn’t really the drama like applying at US schools). Since ECs, hooks and ect. are irrelevant their aren’t really any tips for applying to McGill (or the majority of Canadian schools for that matter) aside from: Get the required grades and test scores and hand your application in on time.

As you can see by far the hardest faculties to get into are Life Sciences (Canadian equivalent to pre-med), Engineering (particularly chemical, civil and mechanical) and Management. The easiest to get into are Arts and Nutrition (the faculty of Arts is generally one of the easiest to get into at any Canadian University). Sciences are somewhere in the upper middle area in terms of difficulty (at least a B+ each year, B+ in each prerequisite math and science and 620+ in each SAT I and II). Arts and science wants pretty identical things except they want SATI and IIs of at least 650.

-Assuming your unweighted GPA is at least in the range of a 3.4-3.5 and at minimum a 3.3 for each of grades 10, 11 and 12 (McGill does not look at grade 9 marks), then McGill will be close to a lock for you because your test scores are all above the requirements for Sciences. For arts and science you are right on the like with the 650 W score so even though you technically qualify, you are at risk of being one of the first people wait-listed if there is an excess of applicants. Therefore for Arts and Sciences I would put you at a high match. So you will probably get into Sciences and have roughly a 50% chance of getting into Arts and Sciences. That certainly isn’t too bad!

Good luck and don’t stress out too much, your chances are pretty solid.

McGill life sciences: Reach (if Chem and/or Math 2C is 670+ then you’re still in the running)
McGill A&S: Match
McGill physical sciences: Safety

For McGill they don’t use score choice right? So I would have to send all my SAT scores?
I took chem and math iic this weekend and absolutely bombed math. i’m expecting like mid 500s in math and mid 600 to high 600 in chem. Im retaking these in december for McGill, but i was wondering if I should cancel my Saturday test because of my IIC score…

Would it be a really bad blemish on my application? Especially since McGill just looks at SATs and grades…

Also I was wondering if I could possibly take take SATII math I rather than SATII math II. I know its frowned upon for being much easier, but could you guys give me your opinions?

Your other option is to take the ACT and score a 29 or better…

I got my november scores for IIC and for chem with 630 on math and 680 on chem T_T
i’m taking Math IC in December; with a strong math IC score (750+) could I be a competitive candidate?

I’m an American student looking to apply to McGill engineering school. I have a 29 on my act but it’s not as good as my sat 1960/1360. I would obviously prefer to send the sat but I have not taken an sat II in science which is a requirement, I only have taken them in math 1(750) and math 2(730). Is it actually so straight forward that I could just send my act and get in because it meets the requirement or should I send my sats and acts because my sats alone wouldn’t meet the engineering requirement w/o a science.

Hi I just submitted my application and I have a quick question. In regards to the transcript, does mcgill wait for the mid year (1st semester) grades to make their decision? My mid year grades come out at the end of january and I was really hope they would take those grades into consideration. I know how decisions start to come in end of january to end of march. Thanks in advance! :)

I exceed every minimum requirement by a large margin except for SAT CR (my score is 590). I am applying for engineering (I have an 800 math) and I am applying as a Canadian citizen from the US. Will I automatically get rejected because I don’t meet the CR minimum requirement? Thanks.
