McGill Decisions Class of 2022 (Entering 2018)

@Resurgens Good question. Still waiting here.

Son was admitted today. FWIW yesterday he screen-shotted and pdf’d his midterm grades from PowerSchool and uploaded them - talk about “unofficial” grades!

Faculty: Arts (wait-listed to Science and Management)
Citizenship: Dual
GPA: 4.5w, I don’t know what his uw is.
ACT: 32
No major entrance scholarships that I know of.

Arts could be a good choice for my son. He has Toronto (Rotman) in his back pocket if he feels he absolutely needs a BComm. But like I told him, you can learn four years of BComm in 12 mos in biz school (MBA).

Congratulations to your son Omegadoug (and to you)!-FYI my daughter has a Honours BA from McGill in International Development, but also a minor in Management - she currently leads team projects for a management consulting firm so it is possible to move into the world of Commerce without the BComm. During her time at McGill she was a research assistant to a Desautels professor, competed in case competitions and was able to take many business courses as an Arts student.

Also, Rotman is a great school!

waitlisted for science but management is still further review required… already uploaded my mid year grades but there is now a new section saying i can upload “mid term 2nd semester grades” with a note that said “including english 12 interim grade”. i’m guessing it’s because i’m taking a full english credit second semester instead of .5 for each. but third quarter won’t be done until after supporting documents are due… thoughts?

@pd2424 I would actually call admissions on Monday and clarify what they are looking for. My son had to call last year for some clarification and they were very helpful. Plus you’ll have the comfort of knowing you’ve given them what they need.

Hey everyone! I’m a US applicant who got the “Further Review Required” status back in December. If I just uploaded my first semester grades to Minerva today, when do you think I’ll here back.

ok will do, thanks! do you know if the faculty of science is supposed to be harder to get into than management?

@maddai i bet you’ll hear back early next week. No promises though.

@pd2424 my understanding and experience is that management is harder to get in than straight science

Decision: Accepted
Faculty: Arts
Citizenship status: American only
UW GPA: 4.0
ACT, or
SAT/Subject tests: 35 ACT, 1550 SAT, 780 US History, 780 Math II
Any pertinent major entrance scholarship information: $3000 first year scholarship

I am super excited about McGill, which seems to be an amazing school with a international reputation, and would cost me less than a University of California school instate to attend.

*I’m still waiting on a decision from the school of music… wish me luck!

Hi everyone!

I applied back in October to Arts and Commerce. I was asked for my mid-year grades last week and uploaded them on the same day. For both applications, I have the status: “Further Review Required.”

As an international student who lives outside of North America, when do you think I will get my decision?

IB predicted score: 43/45

Decision: Admitted
Faculty: Arts, Arts and Science, Science, Desautels
Citizenship status: American
UW GPA: 3.80
ACT: 31 ACT

6 APs taken, 3 (calc ab, bc, world) 5s, 2 (ush, chem) 4s, 1(lang) 3; and, 2 taking this year

I’m so siked!

Hi y’all! I applied to McGill on Sept. 1, got FRR at the end of December, and uploaded semester grades on Jan. 24 (they were received the same day) - and I still haven’t heard back. My college counselor has never had anybody apply to McGill before, so nobody is sure when I’m supposed to get a decision. Any ideas on when I might hear? McGill is my top choice and last university, and if I likely will not be admitted, then I want to visit other schools and decide.
Faculty: Arts
Citizenship status: just American
UW GPA: 3.9
ACT: 34
SAT: 1550, SATII: French 800

@missunitedkates In past years it appeared that students significantly above the minima received decisions early on in the process. This year that does not seem to be the case. From what you posted you are way above the minima. A decision should be coming soon.

@ShrimpBurrito @Resurgens The admissions officer at my accepted students event said we should hear at some point during February.

Hi! If I’d like to go to medical school in the future, would the faculty of arts and sciences be a good/ok program to go into?

@heyheyy123 Yeah definitely i dont see why not. I mean to get into medical school you need to complete the prerequisite courses each med school has. So yeah it would be fine

@heyheyy123 Keep in mind that med schools expect stellar grades. McGill is known for grade deflation, so those As are harder to get. It’s not impossible to get accepted to med school with a McGill undergrad degree, and people do it, it’s just not the easiest way.

@missunitedkates Father of a U0 in the Faculty of Arts. If I were you I would call admissions and just say “I want to make sure you have everything”. They tend to be really helpful and that will give you a little comfort. You are clearly way over the minima for Arts so you should have a good outcome. Best of luck!

I’d agree with ShrimpBurrito. Gotta get those A’s for med school, and McGill is a tough place to get them, as is U of T and UBC. It might help a bit if you’re going into McGill Medicine, maybe? Not sure on that one.

S1 got accepted to Desautels. We are all kind of pumped. We have all sorts of connections to Montreal, but in my case they are very nostalgic ones. I have visited occasionally, but it’s been over 40 years since I lived there.

3.7 GPA
12 AP’s
33 ACT
Varsity baseball (was recruited by McGill to play for them)
Dual citizen Can/Am

@SwimmingDad @TomSrOfBoston thank you!
