For anyone that got accepted last year, about when did you receive notification? Please include what program you were applying to and if possible when you sent your app in. My status has been changed from "Ready for Basic Review" to "Further Review require" i sent my app in early(civil/mech. engineering), but my school still needs to send out a mid year. Do they need this for the decision? thanks

They did it completely differently last year - didn't give out the decisions until much later - so hearing from current students probably isn't a great way to gauge your timetable. They did require the midyear grades, though. Check out this website:

It might be more helpful. Best of luck!

I posted this a bit down, but I got my decision today, so they're definitely earlier than last year.

oh man, mine changed to "further review required" too, i guess that means that they've started reviewing them...quickly, school! send my midyear report! winst, i'm so jealous that you already heard.

how odd that everyone gets notified at different dates.... I really had no idea. Seems like I got admitted to "Arts" but further decision needed for "Arts and Sciences" -- wonder what THAT means ;p

winst is your mid year report in?
when did you send your application in? congrats btw!

Midyear report was sent in the week of December 23rd (not sure if that was a monday, but rough idea anyway...)

I sent in the application at some point between December 16th and December 28th ;p I honestly can't remember, except that I was amazed they didn't ask for a personal statement or have any forms for supplementary materials. It was definitely a straightforward application.

Thank you ;) I just wish I could know from my other schools now!

It was touch and go for my son. McGill was his first choice. He applied and then was stymied. We found out later that because he was an International US student who was also IB -that the application process was delayed.
Let me explain. My son applied as a US Intl student-but many US students do not have IB. My son did.
Mcgill, apparently, was waiting for his projected IB test scores. My son's US school didn't realize this. So, my son's application was on hold.
Eventually, my son's HS understood that the projected grades should have been sent to McGill (my son was the only graduate from the HS applying to any school as an International student).
Once my son's HS sent the projected grades, he was accepted.
It was in May of his graduating year.
If you are US and you really want to go to McGill-stay on it.
P.S. My son is really enjoying his first year at McGill-he loves it.

Oh, about Arts and Sciences-he did get a response that his application to Arts And Sciences was declined owing to lack of space in the program. I believe it was the first year of the program; he didn't even know that such a program existed! He was eventually accepted to both the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Science. He is in Arts.

hi, I got my decision yesterday too :) Do you have any idea what's the deadline for paying the deposit, confirming your place etc.? I tried to find that on their website, but it's all about application instructions, nothing about post-application action! ;)

DS's status has also changed to "further review required". His school just had first semester finals last week and grades have not been sent out yet.
Congrats to those who have heard - and best of luck to those who are still waiting!

Congrats to all those who got in, best of luck to others.
It is definitely different then last year, when all US applicants heard on March 18. I remember my d. up at midnight trying to get into Minerva to see when the decision would be posted. This is a better method, but apparently some schools are more "on the ball" about midyear grades. Info on deposits, acceptance, housing are all in the acceptance package- and on Minerva, I think.

Re: Arts and Sciences is a double major program that was just opened to incoming students last year- it was extremely competitive with much higher scores required. If you read the adcom minutes on the McGill website, over 2000 US students applied and under 100 were admitted. ( Brag time- my d. is in Arts and Sciences). The quality was so high that students who applied to A&S, but weren't admitted were automatically reassigned to either the Arts or the Sciences application pool for consideration and many were accepted. I guess that the reason that winst is still waiting is that those decisions will be made later due to the competition.

wow winst..your semesters must be really short
so...are they going to stay at "further review required" until i send in my midyear report?.....because my first semester just ended..today...so the grades wont be posted for another couple of weeks

me too, mid terms are all next week so the mid year reporst won't be out until at least two mondays from now. I hope they can make a decision before that! But for now, I have "further review" to look at..

I'm still at Ready for Review. BklynMom's post scares me, I'm an American IB student. Could that be holding up my application, or have they just not gotten around to mine yet? About half a dozen kids in my class have applied to McGill and my school regularly sends kids to schools abroad so I'm not too worried that my predicted grades will be sent when they're available. If they've started looking at others without midyear reports I hope they won't be too fussed that they don't have my predicted scores yet. My semester ended yesterday as well.

IB can be quite frustrating. I can't help thinking that if I weren't IB I could have applied and wouldn't have to worry about this and I'd just have fewer tests to take in May.

I'm admitted but still waiting for other schools' decisions, how much time does McGill give to decide whether you want to study there? Just don't want to miss any deadline, I guess I should just wait for the official letter of acceptance...

According to their web site, they release decisions to US students until March 31, and they continue to notify Canadian students into June. SO I doubt the deadline is before May.

should tell you what their notes mean..

It would appear that they want another transcript from me :( from 9th grade (I switched schools)

That info should be on my current one but my app is still listed as "Items Outstanding" because of this. Time to call the old HS.

Does anyone know if I can fax that stuff in if my ID # is on it? That would be faster then having it mailed.
