mcgilldad: me too please!

How would you say McGill factors in SAT's? Being as they're a Canadian school, not American I'm thinking that they wouldn't look over them with a fine-toothed comb (yes I'm saying this because my SAT's are well, um nothing special). Would they consider courses and class rank more so than the SAT and would not taking SAT II's hurt me?

Thanks and good luck to all who applied.

from what i hear, because mcgill is a canadian school, they weigh SATs more heavily than grades. this is supposedly so because canadian schools and american schools grade so differently that its hard to compare the two.

Kelm: McGill requires either the ACT or the SAT I and two
SAT II's. The exact SAT II's depend on the faculty you are applying to. Their website is very clear on which you need to take for admissions. If you take the SAT I, but not the SAT II's you will not be considered for admission as your application will be incomplete. If your SAT scores are not up to your satisfaction level, you might consider the ACT exam as it is more "concrete knowledge" driven than the SAT. McGill will only consider your best exam scores.

All factors are considered in admissions. The McGill admissions office has great experience with American High Schools and knows more than you might think, including comparing grades/gpa. You are also asked to supply a profile of your school which gives more information ( ie. whether weighted grades or class rank are used.)

Thank you mcgilldad.

I did take the ACT and they do have my scores, so I believe I'm okay with that. I should have my school profile in with my transcripts as I asked my nice transcript lady to do so. I'm sure she did.

mcgilldad: mcgill has openly admitted to several deans at my school that they weigh the standardized tests more heavily than the transcript, but both are factors in the decision

how much more heavily. Because the would be great news for me

coop: Thanks for the info- it would be interesting to know what weighting factor they assign to each aspect of the application.

a mcgill rep visited my school today. it was listed in the following order:

standardized tests
course rigor
transcript

coopertemplegrl: That's good to know, thank you. I wish we had McGill reps come to my school. So far, I'm the only one applying.

how do u think SAT scores will stack up against grades like 800 in math vs B/B+ in honors and AP math coursework
