McGill help!

Hello everyone. I have been googling(?) incessantly for the past couple of weeks in the search for more and more information regarding McGill. From all that I have heard about it, I am really considering going. However, I heard (well, technically read from other people) that it is really hard to get in to McGill. So, I guess my main question here is, "What are my chances of getting into McGill?" Here are some details:

I am currently a junior from the UNITED STATES. (INTERNATIONAL STUDENT)
Class Schedule: College Algebra, Trigonometry, History, Psychology, Anatomy, English, Chemisty

Our school doesn't offer any AP courses as of now, just college courses. Do these college courses get accepted by McGill like they would be in an American university?
My GPA is 3.93 and I am ranked 1/32. (<---yeah, small class)
I haven't taken my SAT or my ACT yet, but I read that you need at least a 2100 on SAT and at least a 30 on the ACT. (Ughghgh....more freaking out! pulls hair out) :)

I plan on majoring in linguistics.

Secondly, any information regarding McGill that you wish to include is appreciated! I love reading about the good, the bad, and the ugly of people's experiences at McGill and in Montreal in general. Education? Difficulty? College life? Anything you want! (McGill related of course.)

Thank you everyone in advance! I know that you can't tell me, "Hey man! Of course you will be accepted." I just want some educated guesses or experiences from other people.

P.S. Wow. Sorry guys. I really didn't mean to write an essay here. :)

Hi!

I am an American alumnus of McGill. Last year I started a thread on CC that you may find helpful. The responses are mostly from me and two other alumni “klmnop”, another American and “blobuf”, a Canadian.

This is a thread about Montr

Wow!! Thank you so much Tomofboston! So much helpful information! I am still reading, but so far the information is great!

I am sure the answer is buried somewhere but I will ask it here: How hard (on average) is financial aid from McGill given to US students? Should I expect a scholarship? Or not?

Thanks!

All applicants are considered for a basic one year merit scholarship of about $3000. There is a separate application for major scholarships that are renewable. American applicants are eligible for these awards. There is also a very limited amount of need based grants available for Americans.

Ok. Thank you. You have been very helpful! I am definitely planning on going, it is just the cost (and the fact that I have not even applied yet) that I am considering.

I am also thinking of maybe staying there to get my PhD as well. I read on their website that the linguistics department will cover almost all expenses for five years as you go for your PhD! This seems to good to be true though.

Any information about this? Do you recommend staying for PhD?

Thanks again for all of the information!!

Also, after how many years of being student there will you be given the tuition of a Quebec native?

I think I read somewhere that it was after three years…making the fourth year cheaper?

Thanks.
