McGill + IB/AP

Does anybody else have an issue with McGill FORCING you to exempt from first year courses if you get a sufficiently high score on IB/AP exam??? I worked so hard in high school doing IB hoping that it will help my university GPA. However, being forced to take second year courses in first year is not going to help, especially considering how hard grading is at mcgill.

Yes, a friend's son had the same thing happen to him. That is McGill's policy.

can't you just not send your AP/BI scores in?

I believe it is all or nothing--That is if on your application you stated you wanted AP credit then the above rule will apply. At least, that's my understanding.

actually, you are honestly NOT allowed to take first year courses. When a rep came to my school, she said that mcgill feels it's not fair to the students who haven't done AP/IB to be competing against students who have done AP/IB. As to whether you can just not send the scores in, ppl usually indicated on their admission application if they have done AP/IB, unless you are weird and suffered 2 years of high school doing AP/IB and then keep mum about it when applying ot university. So yeah, mcgill knows if you have done it, you can't just not send your scores in.

Okay my scenerio is I took AP calc AB and AP comp sci, but i didn't write any of the examinations, even though i sort of indicated that i would on my application to mcgill. Does this situation apply to me?

but what if you decided to not take the AP exam for one of your class?
