McGill Reputation and Grad Placement

bump bump bump
any insights on JOB placement for faculty of science?

Do US universities (most importantly columbia, princeton, harvard, etc) understand mcgill’s grade deflation/bell curve policy as opposed to grade inflation at pleaces like columbia and brown

They know, whether or not they take into account… nobody knows. But the McGill degree, even one with less than perfect grades, impresses grad schools.

i really hope so because everyone i met there was like a’s are a rarity and be happy with b’s

is it THAT much work to get an A?

depends on the program. its harder than most school, but not impossible. as i’ve said before… ive met many kids with 4.0s in a bunch of faculties… meaning lots and lots of A’s. if you’re smart, work hard, and have good time management skills you can do it… but for some faculties/majors you shouldn’t expect A’s… cause in general they are a rarity for sure.

do u know anything in particular related to IDS and poli sci

i met a girl in management who told me dont expect to get any A’s in poli sci because its so tough

Depends on what kind of major, I guess? Faculty of science is wide, what are your career plans?

klmnop, what about psychology? any 4.0’s there? (faculty of science)

theres 4.0s everywhere… same as any school, just gotta dedicate yourself

It depends on the job market as well. I was there during the dot-com bubble. There used to be huge career fairs with tons of free stuff for anyone who wanted it. You graduated in CS, you got a job easily. Anyone with some programming skills could get hired. After the dot-com bubble, career fairs became rarer, much smaller events with no free stuff. Job placement has been a lot tougher across the board lately, and you need contacts. So make sure you talk to your profs and inquire.
