McGill SAT minimum requirements

Can anyone tell me if the minimum SAT requirements are a hard and fast rule for admission to McGill?

I ask because I just noticed that McGill has updated their minimum SAT requirements for American students and they seem to be considerably higher than they were before, even taking the new SAT score inflation into consideration.

Those were the lowest SAT scores accepted for the last cycle. They could vary slightly in either direction for the upcoming cycle.

There was a 22% increase in American applicants last cycle. That undoubtedly resulted in an increase in the minima. No one knows what the applicant pool will be this coming cycle. Management, Engineering and Life Sciences have become very competitive for all applicants regardless of place of origin.

Thanks for the helpful responses. My daughter is only a sophomore in h.s., but McGill looks really good to her. I noticed that the SAT requirements for the school of Arts and Science are the same as for Science or Engineering. I didn’'t think that was the case last year when I looked, but maybe I’m remembering wrong.

Make sure that your D takes practice tests in both SAT and ACT to see which she prefers. Some kids tend to be better suited to one over the other. My D (who is applying to McGill this year) has much stronger ACT scores than SAT.

Good luck to your D. McGill is a fantastic school.

Since your D is so young, you may want to look into McGill’s Summer Academy: http://www.mcgill.ca/summeracademy/home

My D participated this past summer. It was their first time offering this two week program. D says it was very well run and she had a great time. She made friends with students from all over the world, learned a lot about how McGill operates, and thoroughly enjoyed Montreal.

Good advice. Thanks. She took the SAT’s and ACT’s in 8th grade just because we thought it would help her recognize what was important in her HS classes. Her percentile rank on the ACT’s was higher, and the McGill ACT requirement is a lower percentile rank than for SAT (94th vs. 96th). So far her grades are excellent, I’m just not sure 700+ on SAT’s is realistic for her. SAT/ACT prep will happen. She’s taking the PSAT’s in a few weeks.
