Hey Guys!! I’m a US University Transfer. I was wondering if other transfer applicants wanted to share their stats so we can see our chances.
My GPA is 3.566 and I applied to Arts.
Anyone???
What’s up? Community College transfer. GPA 3.9 arts as well
I’m in one of the UC’s and my GPA is really close to 3.6
What do you think my chances are? And does anybody know if McGill considers the ranking or the reputation of your current institution.
I transferred into Desautels this past year and prior to me going to my previous institution, I asked someone in McGill admissions this exact question. They told me that it would help if I selected the more academically challenging institution. Hope this somehow helps you. Let me know if you have any other questions.
@Tstudent2019 Thank you so much for answering! Did you transfer from a US University or a Canada Institution and do you mind telling us the GPA they accepted you with? Also do you remember when they released your final decision? Sorry for asking so many questions I’m just really anxious about the whole process so I’m trying to learn as much as I can.
One last thing, I am planning on visiting the admissions office and talking to someone about the whole process and how I think I’m a good fit for McGill. I’m aware that McGill mainly focuses on your GPA and they make it painfully obvious that they have very limited space so I’m trying to stand out as much as I can. Do you think visiting the office could make a positive difference?
@clgfrm123
I transferred from another Canadian institution and had a 4.0 GPA. As for decisions, I was in a weird predicament due to the timing of some of my final marks; however, I believe that decision dates depend on the faculty. Through some of my friends I’ve heard anywhere from April to end of August.
To your final question, I don’t see how it could hurt. I would start by calling first though. One thing I learned throughout my process was that getting involved and actively calling service point to check in on my application went a long way. Spacing depends on the faculty and how many students are attempting to inter-faculty transfer. McGill prioritizes these students so it create a lot of competition for the already limited spots. Don’t be intimidated though, I can’t tell you how many service point representatives cautioned me and explained how competitive transfer admissions were for Desautels. Just remain confident and kill your current semester.
Out of curiosity, which faculties are you applying to?
@Tstudent2019 I’m applying to Arts and Desautels
@clgfrm123
You should be good for Arts as long as you stay above around a 3.5-3.6. Desautels is a crapshoot. The minimum on site says 3.6, but if you’re determined to get in I’d aim for much higher as I expect that some variations may be caused by certain institutions being preferred. Worst case you end up in Arts and can always transfer to Desautels with preferential treatment.
Here are the links for both:

Lmk if you have any other questions, I’m doing my best to avoid studying.
@Tstudent2019 Thank you so much!! I can’t tell you how much it makes me happy just to even hear that I stand a change in arts. To be honest, I’m in one of the top 3 UC’s and I’m crossing my fingers and hoping they’ll consider this when reviewing my application. I’m totally down for arts btw, I actually put arts as my first choice to have a better change at getting into McGill cuz I’m aware how competitive Desautels can be. I’m trying my best this quarter and I think I will be able to get my GPA above or around 3.7. Did you have any friends or anyone you know who got accepted to arts with a GPA around 3.6? Oh and how many credits did you transfer with?
@clgfrm123
I’m not sure if the order of your choices actually makes a difference. I believe the faculties decide separately. I have one friend who transferred into Arts, but I have no idea what his GPA was prior. The requirements link states the minimum for Arts is 3.5 so if you can get a 3.7 I’m 95% sure you’ll get in. Also, I transferred after my first year.
@Tstudent2019 I see, thanks again for all the info!
Any updates on transfers?
still “ready for review”
Hey there, I am a first year US university transfer student and I was wondering what faculty you transferred into with your 4.0 GPA from the Canadian University. Was the gpa out of 4.3 or 4.0?
Hey @Levzin I have received no notification of my transfer as well.
I got into McGill last year as a transfer student with a 3.87 GPA. I got accepted first at Dessautels, at the end of June, and then two weeks later in Arts. I liked Arts better, and it was my first choice, but I was considering Dessautels because my acceptance came in late. They probably won’t start looking at your applications until May, to be honest. Good luck! McGill is awesome.
I’m also a first year US transfer applicant from a major state university, with a 4.0 out of 4.0 GPA. Still “Ready for Review”. It has been like this for more than three months.
no, nothing so far.
@matlavo1 which programs did you apply to and if you don’t mind telling, what’s your GPA?
