McGill Transfer Fall 2014!

Hi everyone,

I'm a student from Korea who is trying to transfer as a second year to McGill, into the Faculty of Arts. I have a 3.82 GPA. What are the chances of getting in?

Also, for other McGill transfer hopefuls out there, what are your stats/current uni/faculty and what do you know about standards from previous years?

Oops I made a typo with the GPA I mean 3.62…
Anyone know how hard it is to get into Arts?

Hate to say it but a 3.62 is weak for mcgill arts transfer and therefore you will not be accepted.
Sorry pal :frowning:

Hi butshesaid,
Not sure if things have changed during the last three years but if it’s any consolation, I got in as a transfer student (in the Faculty of Arts) with a GPA of 3.69 in 2011.

Admission standards vary slightly from year to year depending on a lot of factors so you have a better shot of getting into McGill if you can pull up your GPA to a 3.7.

Having said that, you can look at the average GPA of accepted transfer students last year here: http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/admissionsguide/standards/transfer-and-second-degree

The average stated there was between 3.3 - 3.5. It’s not a surefire sign that you’ll get accepted for sure with your GPA of 3.62 but there might be a slight hope if the applicants this year are similar to last. It’s all dependent on how competitive the rest of the transfer applicants are and the amount of spots they have available for transfer students. If for some reason a lot of strong transfer applicants decided to apply to McGill this year (maybe most of them have 3.7+ GPAs) then unfortunately that might mean you miss the cutoff. So as mentioned above, aim for 3.7 and you’ll have a better shot!
